slideout pump leaking

I know most of you know that I sold my montana & truck, but I still like to come here and see friends and keep up with whats going on. Ok, I have a friend (neighbor) that has 2005 3650, and hes ask for my help. I went and look at it and his seems to be leaking where the fluid tank attaches with 4 screws to the motor. It drips in his tray that holds the unit then drips down thru the screws that hold the unit to the tray and drips down onto his battery. I called lippert and they told me a fix for it by taking the tank off, washing the o-ring in soap detergent, and using red/orange permetex. What I would like to know as anyone here done this and if so did it solve the leak problem? How have any of you fix this problem? and how did you repair the leak?
my friend has no computer so I told him I would trey to help
thank you all
Tom

I have never heard of this fix but what does he have to lose? Besides cleaning the O ring I would clean the surfaces that the O ring contacts as well. When it is all reassembled some support under the end of the tank wouldn't hurt

Hope that fixes the problem, but be sure he keeps an eye on it. I was just at an RV repair shop yesterday and that same pump (I was told they were used up to 2007 or 2008) came up in the discussion. If that specific pump has to be replaced, and it will eventually, they currently list for ~$1,200

Rather than clean the o-ring, I'd try to find a replacement. I'm not saying I've never reused an o-ring, just that in other applications, I've better luck replacing them. I'm betting that Lippert is counting on the Permatex to seal whatever imperfection or nick in the o-ring caused the leak. I'd use a new o-ring and count on the Permatex to seal any imperfections in the housing it sits in.

I would also replace the o-ring. after being compressed for a long period of time thy will get flat spots on the mating surfaces of the o-ring. A stop at Napa or a hyd. shop will get you the right replacement.

I have a 2003 2955RL and my pump started leaking.I talked with Keystone and they told me to clean it good and use Hi-Temp RTV.They didn`t have the O-Ring anymore. That is what I did and it hasen`t leaked since then. That was July 2010.

Tom,

Take the "O" ring off and go to a company nearby that specializes in repairing hydraulic equipment. Hopefully, there is one. Get a new ring that is the same diameter but, has a slightly thicker "cross-section". Install in the groove and put back together. But first, inspect all 4 tabs that the screws go thru to hold the tank to the pump. If they are not cracked, everything should be OK. Also, before you put the 4 screws in, put flat washers on them for that size of screw. I forget what size they are. Do not overtighten them, just make 'em snug.

Once you have the tank back in place, refill it with ATF Dexron-Dexron III/Mercon-Mercon 5 to with 1/2 inch from the black fillcap/breather on top.

Should you have any further questions, you can PM me and I'll guide you thru. Hope you have good luck. The biggest success of this depends on those tabs. If any are broken or cracked, nothing I said above will work.

Keep us posted.

Is this the pump with the WHITE tank? If so the number has been posted on here for the O ring.

When you start reassembly be sure to apply a very light coat of the fluid onto the "O" ring to prevent pinching it.

If it is the two quart white tank, the O-ring size is 348. My tank was cracked at the bottom, probably from overtightening. I replaced the tank with a metal one. I can't see the fluid level, but it's no problem to check.
