Quick Question.
I may have to run our new 3400RL on Mission tires,BLAH

I may not be able to change over to my new Michelin Ribs until after our trip to the Tucson Rally. My question is, what pressure should I be running the Missions, The Max 80 Lbs.?

In my opinion, if it were my unit, I would run at 80 psi. Happy RVing.......

Not to change the subject, but wasn't there a tire pressure monitor link someone posted that had free replacement of the tire monitors that went on the valve stems. I think anyone traveling should not only carry proper tire pressure but monitor the pressure to ensure that the pressure is holding. I am very interested in the momitor but can't find it now.

I have been running 80 in mine and have not had a problem. I am not going to change mine until they wear out. This is my second Montana with the mission tires. However when they do go I will put something else on.

Same as Mudchief. 80psi has been working fine so far. I'm going to buy a pressure monitor as posted in the other thread and go from there.

I just bought a monitor yesterday from http://www.truckerspartstore.com. It monitors tire pressure and tire temp. It also allows you to set your own alarm parameters. Take a look at it. I compared with the other monitors and like this one the best. Not a bad price either.

Thanks for the info. and advice guys,after I change tires, anyone in my area can have the Missions free!
They'll have the miles from ID. to Ca. plus about another 1000 om them.
It would save me some trash can space.

We ordered our late Feb. and still have not received them. I have been reading a thread from the Motorhome guys on RV.net form that the company SAF-TTE had just up-graded their sensor and that it was taking them longer that thought to get them tested and out due to the high demand since they just started offering to the RV people. Their business peior had been strictly OTR Trucks. I will give them until the end of March before I pull the pulg. I think it looks like a great system. Please let me know when you get your units from them

Keep us all informed on the performance of this new alternative. I am fairly sure that I am not the only one that is looking at this sytem also. Price is good, and definitely like the temperature monitoring facet of the system.

I ordered mine yesterday (Thursday) and did the 3 day shipping. So I should have it on Monday. I let you guys know if it came or not. To answer Jack's original question, I always run max pressure (80 lbs) in truck and trailer. One difference is I use nitrogen in all my vehicles tires. I think it helps with the heat worries. I anxious to see how the temp monitoring goes.

Is not good ole air already 78% Nitrogen? What is the benefit of 100% Nitrogen and how to you top of the tires when you lose pressure?

I would like to see data on heat levels using Nitrogen before I believe in it. Also would like to know how you evacuate the existing air out of the tire.

The process is very simple. Take a look at this site. http://www.irtools.com/nitrogen/. I have one of these generators at my work. You hook up 4 hoses one to each wheel turn the machine on and it sucks out the air in the tire. Then replaces it with nitrogen to the pressure you set. The machine does this process twice. I would guess that it’s trying to get as much nitrogen in the tire as possible. I don’t have any hard data on the heat specs. But I figure if NASCAR uses nitrogen in the tires on millions of dollars of race cars to control heat I would assume they did the research. Hmmm, don't think I'm going to follow your lead here. NASCAR does this cause 1 psi is a big deal at 200 mph and Nitrogen in a container at 3000 psi is very portable.

Thanks for the links. I didn't see thermal advanges jumping out at me, just a reduced rate of leakage using Nitrogen. You answered my questions when you mentioned you had the machine at work.

Given all of the concerns for low pressure related failure on the missions, I think you would best be served by keeping them at 80psi.

Beware vendors bearing solutions. The claim by ingersoll that nitrogen disperses heat more quickly doesn't apply to inside a tire and is pure hogwash (marketing drivel). The tire friction with the road, internal friction, road temperature, and direct sunshine produces the heat, and it must be the interaction of the tire with the external environment that removes that heat.

Remember, air is 78% nitrogen; there should be some advantage of 100% nitrogen in reduced oxidation and slower diffusion of the nitrogen through the tire, but not a lot. Compare the outside of an older tire to the inside...which looks better?

Will you check your inflation less often if you have a little more nitrogen in your tires? I hope not! Will you expect your tires to last 10 years instead of 6? I hope not!

I always run 80 psi in ours.

Jack, I wouldn't mind having a couple of those Missions as spares but I just checked and your town is 421 miles from where we are and will be until mid-April. One way. Then we're going the other way. Thanks for the offer anyhow.
