Gone With The Wind--Sewer Compartment Door,Antenna

While on our trip out to Denver, we hit some pretty ferocious winds on the eastern Nebraska border--tornado warnings were up and the wind and rain were really heavy. When we finally managed to pull into a campground, we noticed that the door to the sewer storage compartment was completely gone, leaving only the door housing behind. And then we discovered that one of the blades for the antenna had been bent totally backwards by the combined force of the wind and our progress down the road. Anybody else ever have this sort of thing happen? We are in the process of working with the dealer in Colorado Springs to see about repairs. We'll keep you posted.

Sorry to hear about the winds Bill and Pat! Even more sorry to hear you took your rig to the Dealer in Colorado Springs

I came up from NM yesterday as well, and had some pretty good crosswinds. No damage, but I was watchin close.

I think that forward TV antenna is a little more susceptible to the wind after Keystone put a little more tilt in the front. I would have just gone to that new Camping World in CO Springs for parts and repair.

Thanks for the heads up. They haven't gotten their hands on the rig yet--we just stopped in to talk as we were in the Springs for other stuff. Camping World might just do a better job ya think?

Bill,

Just my own experience, but I've had terrible luck there, even with the original rig we bought there.

Course, CW may not be any better ! That south store just opened, so I have no experience with them. It would seem they could do the antenna just fine, not sure about the sewer door. May have to get that at Dee's to match the original.

Bill, The same thing happened to my tv antenna. I was going to L.A. and passed through the "wind farm" and when I got to Valencia I noticed the front blade was bent completely over.

We had a problem with our antenna and called Wineguard direct. That just might be covered under warranty. Had a new antenna head in 3 days. Our sewer storage door flops open all the time. vey poor design on the latch not to mention Cost effective.Replaced it with a locking latch that will at least keep the door from falling open.

Bowie, if you have trouble matching the door, tell them you want a door for an outside shower. The sewer hose door on our 2007 3400RL is the same door as the outside shower on our 2003 3295RK and it even says something about water connection or shower or something like that on the inside of the door.

Steve,

Didn't you add a door to the curb side on yours? Did you use the outside shower door and frame?

Yes, I did, Brad. The space on the side opposite the sewer hose box is identical but doesn't have the door and frame. I got the identical door and frame, cut out the opening, and installed the door. My extra sewer hoses are on that side but it could be used for about anything else. Like the original, there is open space for ventilation so nothing too small could be in there.

We had the front antenna blade bend back on us this last April in Florida on our way back to Texas from Fort Wilderness. I figured I had snagged it on a low hanging limb at FW or at an earlier stop and allowed the wind to get a purchase on it. Now I'm wondering if it was just road wind all along. This is the first time that I have heard this problem mentioned on this forum. I thought I was alone!

We did have the whole antenna replaced. It is a Wineguard. I didn't even think about asking for a warranty replacement after 1+ years of ownership and the local Montana dealer certainly didn't suggest it. I hope this is not a recurring problem if the cause really is just wind & aerodynamics.

Bowie, that Montana dealer in Colorado Springs, is the place that messed up our washer/dryer install. They didn't tighten the washer water hose. Also tracked in a lot of mud in our new Montana when we had that done.
They offered to clean our carpet but not at that time. We declined becaue we live about 70 miles from there. Cleaned it myself!

We saw a Big Sky north bound on I-5 near Dunsmir, CA yesterday afternoon with a bent antenna. The leading arm was pointing almost directly straight up. So maybe this problem is more pervasive than we thought?

It would be interestiing to find out how many have suffered from this particular problem. We have not resolved ours yet as we are still trying to resolve some issues with the new house. Moral to the story: Don't buy a house and a Montana at the same time!! Unless of course you need the Monty to move your pets and some of your goods to the house.

Called Wineguard and they say they are sending a new antenna head our way. Have also ordered part BW1000 ($6.00) which is supposed to keep the antenna blades secured. It will be interesting to see how this is accomplished. On the way home today, the front blade bent itself back 180 degrees again. Sewer compartment door is on order.

Parts from Wineguard arrived in the afternoon on August 1. I would say that that is pretty good turn-around! Thanks Wineguard. Now if I can just get them up on the Monty roof as quickly!

Sorry for the double post--it seems the Time-Out Trolls are at it again. Hope no one else has the problem.
