River Ranch, Red River, NM
Just stayed 2 weeks at River Ranch RV at Red River, NM. What could be a nice CG has been badly neglected. The whole story: First, they required a 2 night, nonrefundable deposit (check or money order, they do not accept credit cards). We arrived after the office was closed, but info for us was left on office door. Before we hooked up the owner/manager came by to make sure we had a reservation. We finished hooking up about 8:00pm and everything worked fine (except for cable tv). A little after 9:00pm we noticed we had no water. Inquiring at other sites, we were told the management had advised everyone that water service would be turned off at 9:00pm. Of course management forgot to tell us that, and since I don't travel with water in my tank, we had no water for the evening. Over the course of our stay, the water was off about 75% of the time, only on so that we could fill our holding tank. The CG advertises cable tv but at best it had about ten channels. That was ok, but their system is so dilapidated, that most of the time we could only get about five, barely visible channels. When I complained, someone came down and worked on it. Then I didn't have any channels that I could see at all. Had my brother-in-law, being rather handy, not been able to "rework" the cable for our sites, we would not have had any cable at all. He was at least able to get our snowy picture back on.
Discarded items (junk) are strewn over the property and the interior roads resemble the lunar surface. About the only well-maintained items are the signs advising people of what they are not allowed to do!
This RV park charges a premium for their sites ($29+)per night, with no discounts for weekly or monthly stays. No refunds for early departures. They did not advise anyone, on checking in, of the water problems or lack of watchable cable service. Once there, you're stuck with staying or lose your entire fee.
