Lighting the oven

I asked this question at the Tampa RV show and really didn't get an answer. Why can't someone come up with a way to automatically light the propane oven? The stovetop has an igniter, why not the oven? One sales rep told me that whoever figures that one out will be a millionaire! Come on, you guys! I'll only ask for a small percentage!

Thank you for the link! I guess I am curious as to why they are not offered, at least as an option. One sales rep said something about traveling with an open flame, electrical codes, passing inspection....

That has never made sense to me. Traveling with an open flame is when you forget the pilot is on and you travel with gas to the frig. An igniter would keep that from happening.

Never thought of it but Dick is right, if you have an igniter then you don't have a pilot light. The oven has a pilot light and if you forget to turn it all the way off then it is still lit going down the road.

Last year at Quartzsite Jackel1959 installed an igniter in our oven. It works great! Several other people have them also and everyone is happy with it. Jack did a great job. I thank him everytime I turn on the oven, no more down on our knees with our bottoms in the air trying to light it. Pat

As long as you light it with the oven door open. Same reason you should not light your grill with the top down. It stops the sightings of UFO's when gas collects and then ignites. This is the reason there is not an igniter in the oven.

I got tired of the bending over to light the thing ordeal also. My solution was to have the oven removed and replaced with a dishwasher that does not need lit! Works for us!

Although I'd rather do like Bingo did, I'm curious: where did jackel install the button part?

KEN65 and Mynabird beat me to it! Jack did the install on Mynabird and HoboBob's oven last year while about six or 7 of us watched. The sparker is installed in the same place as the OEM sparker. The hole must be enlarged and the stove/oven must be pulled out some to be able to run the igniter wire down the back of the unit and in the back of the oven. Since we were not able to attend Q this year I emailed Jack and he was kind enough to give me directions on how to install and sell me the parts needed for the conversion. I think I will be holding off putting it in our present Monte because we are THINKING and I repeat THINKING of purchasing a new unit, so I'll install it in the new unit IF AND WHEN we get the new unit! There is not pilot light involved here since it is a direct ignite of the burner when using the igniter to start the oven!

OK I admit, I'm new, but I think the pilot light's function is two fold. The first is to hold the main gas valve open when the valve is turned to a temperature with the electricity that the thermocouple generates. The second is to act as an ignition source for the main burner in the oven. If you have no pilot light, what holds the gas valve open???

i have found that if you have the door open hold the pilot light down for about 10 to 15 seconds then push the light button this will get the thermal coupling hot and the oven will light that if you do the mod all the parts for this can be bought at lowes or home depot i think this took me about 40 mins to do and 40 mins for the DW she want to clean the oven best time to clean it when it is out side are stove gets a work out now and i feel it 20lbs heavier hot cookies and milk go down real good when watching TV

We would have to unload everything we store in there to light it. Oven you say..I thought it was a heated storage area.
