Well, my DEF light said to fill within the next 500 miles. So I took out my handy-dandy 2 1/2 gallon WalMart container and filled the DEF. The notice went out. 150 miles later the notice is back on. Nothing leaking so I assume there is something I am supposed to reset?

Mike,
In the instrument cluster go to where you can check on oil life, etc. There is a listing for your def status. To agree with status push the "OK" button and hold as if you were resetting trip odometer, mpg, etc. This will reset for you.
I find something NEW on this truck all the time.I Really think the truck is smarter than me!
Good luck with the DEF reset, Keith

The tank holds 5 gallons and the 500 mile reminder comes on when you are low (maybe 1 gal.) so if you only put 2.5 gal. in it was not full. Mine resets itself when I fill it. When I first bought the truck the dealer told me they had filled it but they had not and the light came on in 250 miles.

So Fords don't have a gauge just a warning light? Hmmmmm.

OK, don't know about Fords, but GMs when they get that low, generally require more than a single 2 1/2 gal jug. I generally wait until I'm down to 200 - 300 miles, then dump in two of the 2 1/2 gal jugs and it resets it's self.

More than a warning light, a computer readout that starts with a less than half full reading, and then additional countdown warnings, with plenty of time to purchase and refil

Thanks. I will check the computer cluster thing and get another container of DEF. Should solve my problem.

Its nice having the gauge in the new Rams, when it gets to half or below add the 2.5 gallon jug ,and back to full or close.

I prefer buying DEF at a major truck stop for 5 reasons vs the 2.5 gal box as follows:
1. Can actually fill up the tank without any left over
2. Cheaper price
3. Fresh source (how long has the stuff been on the shelf?)
4. Quicker and easier to fill at pump than box
5. No packaging waste
When I have to buy 2.5 gal I buy the blue DEF because after using the Walmar stuff once my DEF injector had to be replaced. Not sure if that caused it but I lost confidence in it.
