2012 Chevy Trucks

I'm considering trading my 2006 2500 Chevy diesel for a new 2012 2500. Anybody have a 2011 or 2012 Chevy? Any problems towing or with truck? I'd appreciate your advise/comments. Thanks

See my signature, have 2500 miles on my 2011 3500SRW, and it doesn't even know it is pulling the rig till I stop to fill up and pay the bill. Great vehicle in my opinion and if you are going to get one, recommend spending a few more $$$ for the 3500 series since it will handle a lot more pin weight.

Nobody is going to have trouble towing with any of the big three diesels

We have a 2011 Chevy 3500HD diesel. I don't know what else I could ask for to pull our 3400RL. We were just in the Smoky Mountains last week and I just set the cruise control and the exhaust break and let the truck do it's thing. We really enjoy our truck. The mileage even seems to be getting better as we put miles on it.

If you're thinking about it, I would also suggest the 3500 to handle the weight in the bed better.

Absolutely with the 1 ton vice the 3/4. Believe you get bigger fuel tank as well

I agree on the 1 ton. The price difference between the two is negligible when you have that extra cargo carrying capacity for gear and any rig's pin weight.

All 2012 trucks are much better across the board when compared to their own 2006 counterparts.

The only better upgrade is a dually but I think you're trying to avoid that.

I just finished doing the change from a 2002 to a 2012 and did a lot of comparing. Any of the big three will be a good choice, but I stayed with GM because of the employee discount and I'm a little prejudaced.(?)spl
After towing across a few states for our dealer in their DRW, that convinced me to go ahead and get the DRW truck.
Now the strange part, the 2500 and the 3500 were within a thousand dollars of each other in price when equiped alike. I cannot get the truck in my garage, I will have to park differently than before, but I neeeeeeeeeed the extra walk.
Also, watch the weights of the new Montanas, compare that to the 2500/3500. Yes the 2500 will pull them, but in my mind, I feel safer with the 3500.

I agree with everyone else, spring for the 3500 Dually. Been back and forth to Fla from Western NY twice with ours (30K miles on it now) and we take the inland route down through the Foot Hills of the Blue Ridge and no problem, like said above, set the cruise and exhaust brake and sit back and enjoy the ride.

From Santa Fe. After towing across many of the mountain passes of Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming with my 2007 2500 single rear wheel Duramax/AllisonI feel perfectly comfortable. Of course, not telling anyone else what to do, but this is my experience.

This spring we went from a 2006 2500HD 4x4 diesel to a 2012 2500HD 4x4 diesel, both crew cabs. Wished I could have went to a 3500, but conditions prevented that.

Loved the 2006- was the best truck I had owned. Had over 125,000 miles on it and averaged around 18 mpg daily driving and 10.5 towing our last 5'er - a 323RKS Jayco that was 8800 pounds dry.

Bought the 2012 truck - and while getting the hitch rails installed, looked at the Montana we eventually bought. Most expensive set of hitch rails I ever purchased. We camped at Disney at Easter (1300 miles each way), and this new truck is great! My daily driving mileage is a bit lower at 17.4 mpg, the towing mileage with a heavier 5'er was 11.5 mpg. The larger fuel tank is much appreciated, power was good through the PA mountains - it felt stronger than the old truck even though pulling a much heavier rig.

Obviously, I am impressed with the 2012 capabilities and some of the newer creature comforts are good too. Good luck, Mike

I am very happy with my 2011 Chevy LT 3500 HD DRW 4X4 Extended Cab w/Duramax/Allison. I had a F250 V-10-good truck rough ride. The mileage and the RIDE are much better with the dually. Good luck!

Have only 3000 miles on my '12 2500 HD and really like it. One con, Gm has really cut corners on some small things, did not notice that there was no tailgate lock until I wanted to add a rearview camera. Also just hauled a tiller that was up against the tailgate and the tiller rubbed the plastic guard across the top, in the past would have expected a scratch in the plaste at worst, now it has chewed it up so much that the metal is almost showing through with chunks of plastic hanging loose. The plastic is much softer (cheaper??) then in the past.

I bought a 2500HD Diesel new a year ago. Extended Cab, full box, Tow Pkg, LTZ. Been to Colorado and Texas with my 3400RL. Love my truck. I don't carry much fresh water because I could be overweight on my truck rear axle. I have all the guts I need when towing. Get better than 11 mpg towing

Yea I'm a little over on pin weight but all else is good. My 2007.5 LTZ is doin' just fine. No recalls, no turbo problems, and it just keeps on tickin'. Not an exciting tv.

GELSWICK - I had a 2004 2500HD and was overweight for the truck, but the axle was WAY under - by 4 pounds! I have a 2980 that had the highest pin weight of any of the 2006 models. I think it was 1-200 lb heavier than the 3400. Plus I had a 52 Gal. fuel tank so that is an extra 200 lb. And the 2012's have at least 2-400 lb higher capacity than the 2004. So I would think you should only be over by maybe 200 lb total on the truck and fine on the rear axle.
Just my opinion. (Also, maybe you carry your kitchen sink along too! HA HA )
