Montana Lengths

There has been a discussion on another thread about different lengths and what they are and what they mean.

I called Keystone today...here's what they said: The brochure's "Exterior Length" is chassis only. The separate specification sheet that my dealer gave me lists "Exterior Length Cap To Bumper." This measurement is from the front cap to the rear bumper/ladder. On average you have to add 1 1/2' to the brochure length to get the true spec sheet overall length. Some are more (add 2' for the 2980), some less (add 1' for the 3475RL). The Keystone guy (very responsive and helpful) said if you need the true length for a parking place or garage, the length on the spec sheet is what you should use.

Yes, I found this strange when we purchased our 342PHT Montianeer. Logically, I assumed it was a 34" rig. Brochure noted it was 36'3". When dreaming of a new barn to store it in, I actually measured it and found it was 37'4". Makes me wonder why the model number is 342?

Also found out (not the hard way), you should measure the height when the rig is on your truck. Brochure noted 13' high. On level ground this is correct. However, when on the truck, it is actually 13'3" on level surface.

First I want to point out that the Montana model number is just that a model number. The numbers are totally meaningless and have nothing to do with any kind of measurements. The RL, FL, RK however do have meanings. RL - Rear living Room, FL - Forward or Front Living Room, RK - Rear Kitchen.

We initially thought our 04 2955RL was 32 feet as listed in the brochure. After just one year imagine our surprise to find our baby actually grown 2 feet 3 inches. At that rate of growth our Monty will be 40 feet in just a couple more years.

We bought our 3000RK thinking it was 30 ft. nose to ladder its 35.5 ft. A lot more than realy needed, And more than I wanted to tow around. But we love it and don't think I want to go to any thing smaller.

Well we have been shorted at least 10 inches. Our 3400 measures 38' 3" from the front cap to the end of the ladder. Does anyone know where the lost and found is I want to make a claim?

We also measured the height and it is 13'3" not the 12'9" that is on the brochure. That figure includes the air conditioner.

Definitely need to use a tape measure. We found our 3255 was longer than stated on the specs when hubby decided to tape it.

Well the 13'3" checks out.Sent Helen up on the roof with a 2X4 and a level Our higest point was the front A/c and the maxair over the bathroom You have to measure these things from the very end of the ladder to the very tip of the hitch pin because that's what you are dragging along behind you..We have the Mor-ryde hitch pin which is a extended hitch pin so it would be a bit longer than if you have a standard hitch pin...Sky..we are going to have a measure off at the Fall rally..Bring your best tape measure...

My highest point is the MaxxAir vent cover over my Fantastic Fan in the kitchen. Had them double check again when they installed the 2nd a/c this spring. The dealership said 13'4" is my height. I have not checked that, I figure the dealership should be very close.

Rich,
If I still have this coach, I will have my tape ready. =)

I have a lot of fun telling people that my 06 2955RL is the smallest Montana made. At service stations people are always commenting on how big my Montana is and I say to them. This is the baby Montana, the very smallest model. Most people think I am kidding. You gotta love it.

Don, just tell them that a few years ago Montana made their largest 5ver, and it didn't work out, so they sold it. The company that bought it, sealed it up and made a boat out of it.

Ask them if they have ever heard of the QE II?

Dano: I measured our 3000RK by dropping a plumb line from the futhest point on the nose cap and another on the rear most part of the ladder. Came up with 36' 2". Did the same on the front bumper of the truck.

Dave,

I am a cruise addicted don't talk about having a dud going into the QE II. It really is very interesting watching them build a ship. I am sure that is very similiar to any RV per the posts on the thread about the factory. Things are made and then put in during the assembly line. I think there are a few more welds in putting a cruise ship together than the Montana.

I hope you are busy thinking about things that you will be putting in yours as your delivery date is approaching faster than you think.

Your PDI list should be warming up in your hands as I type. Don't forget to check the decals.

Rich,

We just have the standard hitch.

FWIW, the guy at the lot where we store our 2955RL measured it at 33' even. I thought 29 in the model number was length, too, but the post above about it being chassis length makes sense.

Awhile back I had opportunity to ask a Keystone exec how they come up with the model number and how it correlates to length. He said before they can submit a new model proposal they have to assign a model number. They guess at what the length will be. What I don't know is if they guess at chassis length or total finished length. In any case, they are not very good at estimating. The 3000RK attests to that.

Our 3295RK measures 36'4" in length and 12'7" in height. Brochure says 34'9" and 12'8". The new tires may have changed the height slightly.
