Water Pump Noise
Hey guys.
Does eveyone else have a crazy loud water pump? We camped at a state park and had to really use the fresh tank for the first time this past week, and it's REALLY loud. I took a peek behind the convenience center and it not loose or anything. Just wondering if this is normal or not??

Pretty normal. You can isolate by mounting pump on rubber and using flex tubes

Yup, noisy for sure. Mounted ours on a rubber matting, and cover with a an insulated piece of carpeting.

Did all of the above and changed to a quieter, more powerful pump.

Doubled the rubber pad, added hose loops, and it was quite quiet. Had some sort of blockage, thought the pump had quit and replaced it with another brand thinking it would be even better - now it's worse than the stock original (which turned out to still be good). We're getting to the end of a ten+ week trip and I plan to replace it over this winter with a REALLY better pump.

Our issue is purely auditory. It actually works great, it's just that everyone within 100 yds knows you just used the bathroom at 2am #128533;

Ours is also quite loud. I think Dick has the right idea on installing a quieter one. Mine will even drown out the loud humming sound of my transfer switch. As for pressure the factory pump sees to have plenty in my opinion.

I too had a very noisy pump or so I thought. I installed a pad under the pump, put isolators under the feet, installed a flex line to dampen the noise. I then sprang for a new quite pump. All that helped, a little but not much.
What convinced me that the pump was NOT the issue was 2 things. First, a shurflo dealer had their cheapest pump on display at the Quartzsite RV show. The pump was running continuously into an aquarium. It was completely quiet. His point was clear, it's not the pump that is making the noise!
The second proof was that I bought a new RV, a SOB. The pump is quiet and can barely be heard. When I pulled the basement wall down to take a peak, all of the pex plumbing was neatly installed and mounted on a piece of ply. All lines were secured, thus eliminating the hammering that makes the noise.
If it were me, i'd save the $ on a new pump and secure the plumbing. BTW, I tried do secure it on the Montana but apparently didn't do a very good job. On my new RV, every pipe going to the convenience center and pump are mounted and secured to wood!
The only good thing about buying a new pump is that a friends pump went out when we were boon docking and I had a spare to let him use.

Ken thanks for the information. I will have to look into modifying the pump and or lines. To bad Keystone did not do this for us already.

Behind my convenience center wall are a ton of pex piping. There must be 7-8 lines and some are teed off to other lines more than once. Trying to mount these against wood would be a nightmare!!! Just saying.....

The stock Flojet that comes with the Montana is a very loud pump and it doesn't matter what you do, you will not make it any queiter. Get rid of it and buy a Shurflow 4008. You will be impressed.
