Bouncy Steps Solution

Found what I think will be an effective and reasonably priced solution to stopping the bounce when using our folding entrance steps. Was looking at replacing the folding steps on our 2013 29RLT Mountaineer with the Mohryde Solid steps or something similar. Didn't like the price or losing access with the steps blocking the entrance when stowed.

A parts guy at a dealer recommended looking at the Lippert Solid Stance Step Stabilizer. $45 later and installed, and I think we're set! The Step Stabilizer mounts permanently on the underside of the bottom step (although I think some have mounted it on the 2nd step up). Very solid and flexible adjustments for uneven ground.

The instructions say to mount at the front edge of the bottom step. I was unable to do so because prefitting showed the step wouldn't fold in that position. I moved it back from the front edge less than an inch and it stows just fine.

Our bottom step has a wire handle welded on the underside to aid unfolding so I had to shim the stabilizer to accommodate mounting over the handle welds. No problem with all the washers provided. I did shear the head off one of the 4 button head bolts provided and replaced them all with harder bolts.

The stabilizer should ride stowed with no problem since it's upside down and secure when traveling. Each of the two legs can be adjusted at different angles and extensions for uneven ground. Solid steps have a similar extension adjustment.

We already have the flip out handle mounted to the camper, and with the stabilizer, I think we've found a winner!

I saw that, but thought it would be better if the legs were at the edges of the bottom step so that they extended straight or nearly straight down,
I concerned mounting in the center will still allow some flex if you step on the outer edges of the steps.
Please report back after you have used them for a while.

Will report back after some more use this summer. The legs do pivot from the center, but the bracket to which they mount extends across the width of the step. It's a hefty little bracket and stiffens the step quite a bit.
We'll let you know what we think. Safe travels.

UPDATE: The stabilizer is working very well for us. I cut a couple pieces of 1x4 to put under each leg to keep from sinking in softer material. Suggest getting the RV level and stable before putting the legs down to prevent and possible binding. Also noticed that some of the framework on the fold out step assembly is not very heavy duty, so this stabilizer helps keep all the weight of us off that framework.
All in all, a very good and relatively inexpensive solution for us.

Another solution (but way more expensive) is to replace the steps entirely with revolution glow steps. They contact the ground and are adjustable in many ways to accommodate any type of uneven ground.
