furnace not holding temp
New 294RL 2021 HC. We are traveling soon AZ and have de-winterized, put some water in. Temperatures are in the low 20's overnight so we have the furnace set to 55. The furnace goes on but does not reach temp. I turn the thermostat off wait abount 10 seconds and page through to the gas heat to turn on. Fan comes on then a short((5-10)sec burst of ignition, stops and retry which last longer than the first ignition. This time we have solid run on the burner. Burner runs for a while and while i'm not there it stops running and I have to go out and reset again. I talked with the dealer tech and sent some pics. He said sometimes they over tighten the connection to the burner and it fails after a while. He said to pull DOWN on the back of the gas valve where the LP line is connected and that will make the burner part of the assembly go UP. I tried to do that with the LP line connected but it's still not working properly. If you take in for service.....get in line and wait about 2 months just to get in. Does anybody have some ideas. Thanks

Sounds a lot like a faulty sail switch. You could always ask Montana for a mobile repair.

dealer tech said yesterday if sail switch was faulty the furnace would not run. I took off the outside panel and we have a 1 flash on the led which is a limit switch/air flow problem. Restarted again. This time there was no short burst of ignition and as we speak it is still running and hopefully getting to temp inside. At this point, I think there is some backwash of air on ignition because the panel is off.

Make sure your air vents and under stairs returns are not obstructed.
Try swapping the black 15A self resetting fuse (unreliable) with a blue 15A regular one.
Switch propane tanks. Turn your auto switching valve to the other tank/regulator.
Check the furnace burner flame sensor. While you are there make sure the burner is clean and free of rust (common problem).

The under stairs "return" isn't even hooked to the furnace. Those vents are simply passive ventilation so the furnace can push new, hot air into the space. You could achieve the same thing by opening a window.

Yes, but the vents can be an issue. In some models, even one slide in will block enough vents to cause an issue.

Supply vents for the heated air yes, but these particular stair
"return vents" do nothing for furnace operation.

Without the return stair vent, can you please explain where the air for the furnace comes from then?

Behind basement walls. Stair vents on the left. Furnace on the right.

Do you have an exterior cover on your furnace that you can remove? You might inspect the internals to make sure there are no bug nests blocking internal air/gas flow. It could also be an igniter/flame sensor issue with the gap between the igniter and burner. You can check the needed gap in your manual. Given your symptoms it could also be a buggy thermostat. I believe you can pull the TStat from the wall and just tie the 2 wires together to test the furnace. If it works fine then you know it's the TStat. Or it could also be a faulty main board. I know, lots of options and troubleshooting is difficult.

Actually, the combustion air is gathered from outside. The heated air supposedly is recirculated. But the answer to your question is illustrated in the picture that was posted. These trailers get air from the most readily available place. As you can see the "return" grills are not ducted to the furnace. All they do is give the inside air to go when the furnace comes on.

We all know where the combustion air comes from. I am asking where the air to be heated and disbursed comes from when the stair vents are blocked off.
As the main cabin is closed off from the heater, the air has to come from the compartment where the heater lives. That means it is sucked up from around the tanks and that air is then replaced by outside air through the under belly openings and the pass through door seals. Consequently the heater is trying to heat cold air rather than the already warm cabin air. Is this correct?

I guess so, yes if you blocked off the 'return' grills, what I meant by passive return is it gives the air someplace to go so it can be replaced by new warm air. Otherwise the space will be pressurized and the fan won't be able to push as much air. I don't think these things are THAT tight though. If I can tell when my neighbor lights a cigarette outside. LOL

We do not have problems of course we manage to stay in moderate temps year round so the furnace does not get heavy use. In Florida during the winter if it gets a bit chilly the fireplace keeps us warm.
