2020 Ford Super Duty
Well Ford finally released the specs on the 2020s...
The updated Power Stroke V-8 in the 2020 Super Duty makes 475 hp and a staggering 1,050 lb-ft of torque. That's 50 more lb-ft than the Cummins and 140 more than the Duramax turbodiesel in the Silverado HD.
Ford fans rejoice, those engine specs put the 2020 Ford Super Duty back on top of the heavy-duty truck hierarchy. Ford also says that "properly configured" F-450s deliver a best-in-class diesel gooseneck towing maximum of up to 37,000 pounds—up from the 35,000 pounds in the outgoing Super Duty. Conventional towing jumps from 21,000 pounds to 24,200 pounds with the diesel. Maximum towing capacity increases across all Super Duty pickup variants—F-250, F-350, and F-450—for 2020.
For comparison, max gooseneck towing on the Silverado 3500HD and Ram HD is "only" 35,500 pounds and 35,100 pounds, respectively. If hauling bed loads in the bed is more your business, max payload for the Ford is available on the F-350 with the standard 6.2-liter motor and comes in at a class-leading 7,850 pounds. The Chevy and Ram are officially behind the Ford in this category as well, delivering 7,442 and 7,680 pounds, respectively.
Gotta when the manufactures compete, just waiting for job 2 to place an order.

Does anyone really believe it’s safe to pull 37,000 pounds or 35,500 pounds with a pickup. I’m just waiting for a 35,000 pound fifth wheel camper.

37,000# trailer --- 7,400 PW. My 2019 F350 dually has a payload of 5598. The F450 has a lower payload than F350 so the number means nothing.

I have for years been a ford guy until my 2008 F 350 6.4 diesel died with just a little over 100,000 miles. No more Ford for me !!! 2016 Ram Dually 6.7 diesel Asian tranny 4:10 rear end.

I had a F-450 I went back to the F350 dually because the 450 came with a 4:30 gear my 2019 F350 I ended up getting 355 gear and I'm pulling around 28000 lb no problem. I also only have the 6-speed transmission the 2020s have a 10-speed transmission it might be a little better with the 450 now I found I could only run around 60 miles an hour and the truck was comfortable at that the RPMs were around 2500 RPMs my 2019 runs right around 1900 RPMs at 68 mile an hour

Why is it that folks don't consider that a trailer weighing in at 35,000# has brakes on it. A semi with a 80,000 load couldn't stop that load with just tractor brakes. Some day pick up trucks will hit the brick wall when they can't tow any more weight. I bet there is a guy out there trying to figure out how to get a semi motor in a pick up LOL
My 15 doesn't have all that but it fits my needs just fine. By the way the 20 will hit around $75,000, you can go up from there
By the way Chevy and Dodge say they can do it.

I looking at a 2020 truck and I am not a brand loyalist because the Ford, GM and Ram are quality unit. Also the pricing seem the same regardless of brand. Ford seems to be the strongest truck for 2020 in terms of power, tow capacity and carrying capacity. Also it has a 10 speed tranny like GM/Chevy. That means you can have a high gear differential while letting the tranny do the work. That also translate into better fuel economy because the engine will stay in it's power band better and when not pulling a trailer the engine will run a lower RPM's which is a good thing. I priced out the 2020 F350 SRW king ranch and the dealer claims it will be very close to a 2019 with similar set up. I am waiting until they actually are in the show room to see what colors they come up with and confirm the price. I was going for a GMC, since the 2020's are already available, but between the GM strike and Ford's new spec's. I going Ford this time around I think :-)

I never buy job 1, always wait for job 2. Remember some of us use these trucks for work as well as pulling a camper. I may be towing a small excavator or dozer with a gooseneck that is around 30K & doing that with a P U has some benefits & is very comfortable. There are some advantages to have a vehicle that can be paid for by the business & still used for pleasure, its a truck that can earn its keep with minimal maintenance & registration fees. You need to buy what works for you, has what you need & like, I don't think there is a wrong choice between the big 3, I will add that I have had great luck over the years with ford, I take very good care of our trucks & the resale has always been good.

Of course, that means nothing to someone that's had 3 bad experiences with Dodge/Chrysler vehicles over a 15+yr period and none of them were near 100,000 miles, but we remained loyal to our local dealership nevertheless, until 2011. I've read that Ford did have some problems with their earlier diesel engines, but Ford didn't build those engines, a company named Navistar/International built them, actually since 1993. As you may recall, Navistar/International builds semis and diesel engines and you see them on all the interstate roads. That said, Ford experienced enough problems with Navistar over the years, that they severed ties with Navistar in early 2010 and then Ford hired some of the best diesel engineers from Cummins and IH to compliment their Ford engineers. Soon after, Ford came out with the million mile tested 6.7L diesel engine. It had so much more HP and torque, that they had to build a different transmission around it. When the 2011 Ford Superduty's were launched, all the diesel engines were the 6.7L diesel and Navistar was forever history. In less than four years, Ford had sold over 1/2 million 6.7L diesel trucks. Ford has continued to tweak the HP and torque, just like all the other engines manufacturers. It rivals anything Cummins or GM can offer. In addition, Ford is the only company the develops and manufactures all their diesel engines and transmissions in house. Dodge and GM can't say that!

I just read Cummings is using compacted graphite iron in their Diesel HO engines. If true it’s certainly better than cast iron. It’s used in some tractor trailer engines, Cummings 3 L Diesel, Ford’s 6.7 and 2.7 Ecoboost and other engines. CGI is stronger, quieter with less vibration and more wear resistance than iron.

hmmm, why is that funny? I was taught that 8 cylinder engines produce more power than 6 cylinder engines because the is more combustion/revolution.

I love em, all my vehicles have V 8s, gas & diesel. I dont think I could buy a vehicle with out a V 8, nothing sounds better, bonus if its supercharged!
