Rust,Rust,Rust
We are leaving tomorrow for a one day trip to camping world to get a second A/C installed. Well today we removed the shade that we had put on when we first moved into our montana. I could not believe the inside of the vent over the bed was covered with RUST!!! Course they will take all that out when they install the A/C and I won't have to look at it. What I wonder is Have any of you noticed rust in any of your vents??

Yep, a small batch of them were not processed correctly, and they rusted. I had one in the middle of the coach that did it, the rest are still rust free.

We had ours replaced with a Fantastic Vent, the cheap kind, on, off, we have to open, etc. Use it for shower humidity.

Yes some of the early 2004's and late 2003's had a problem not sure if they were replaced under warrantty or not I will sand mine down and paint when the weather gets warmer . Mine just had surface rust and did not seem to be real bad in the fall. I would rather take care of the problem that way and not mess with removing them and worring about them leaking. Roman

Linda,
I know that there were a number of bad vents, just cause I only had one, does not mean that someone cannot have 2 or more.
You mentioned the covers, are these the kind you "stuff" up in the vent to keep out daylight?? I cannot imagine that the cover kept the humidity level high, thus causing rust. The material IS supposed to be rust proof.
Geesh, it sounds like you just got two of the bad ones. What a bummer that is!
Glass Guy's suggestion that they can be sanded and painted is a good one, if I remember, someone else on the forum did just that and had no further trouble. (I hope I remember that correctly.)
Good luck on the A/C install tomorrow.
Carol

We had 3 out of 4 that rusted. The only one that did not was the one in the potty room. We did not notice this until we were set up for the winter here in FL (and of course they are out of warranty). Our solution was to sand off the rust and paint each vent band with a silver metallic paint. They all look great now. We may eventually have them replaced, but this was the easiest and most economical solution for now. We will probably replace them with the fantastic fans sometime in the future.
