You guys sure know how to make a "Flat Back" owner feel good! Guess I should start staying in the overnight sections of mobile home parks!

It's not meant to make you feel bad. Not my intention, it's more of what Montana has told owners about it "flagship status"! We were told Alpine was under Montana and Montana would lead with innovation. That's a real selling point at resale. I just would hate to see Montana loose it's celebrated #1 position or keep it by making short cuts. When I bought my coach the front and rear caps were proudly listed as a standard feature. It just surprised me when I saw one with the cap. Only those of us who own older rigs really notice it. The new rig I saw was beautiful, don't get me wrong! Plus it looks easier to wax ! Sorry.....

I agree, hunts800, I love my 2013 Mountaineer and selected it because of the floorplan and not the cost. We have found that the " flat" back doesn't get nearly as dirty. Will start looking for mobile home parks also, hate to run down the "good" campgrounds with our Mountaineer.

For some reason the Montana name hit a cord with buyers I don't know why .We had never heard the name until we saw one at a FCRV rally in 2004. IMO the fit and finish was as good as any in the price range and it could be had at a much lower price. Many MOC'ers will say it is a "Good bang for the buck" and IMO that is why it is the # 1 seller. The Montana line is now easy to understand .Montana, Montana Legacy, Montana Big Sky. Each one is distinct and in its own price range. If we were not long timers and live many months in our Montana Big Sky we certainly would not have spent the money on this level of Montana. This is our second home and we got all the goodies. The good thing is that are all Montana's and the name will get you good bucks on trade or sale.

besides it is only us .."old timers "that even noticed the difference.

I just think they are diluting the name Montana by sticking it on too many different campers for a short term gain. I'm afraid they have forgot what a Montana camper is in the market place. Again if you don't know who you are your customers will never figure it out. You can't change who you are and expect to keep your customers. They had a winning formula now they have changed it. In years to come no good will come of this.

None of us are discussing this topic in an effort to slight anyone that currently owns a Mountaineer or the new base Montana as there is absolutely nothing wrong with either of these fine rigs. It's just like buying a new tow vehicle, some are willing to pay for all the bells and whistles and others are not.

Those that are about to buy a new Montana might learn a bit more about what they are purchasing by following these type of threads.

I gotta jump in. This is a sore point for me. When Montana removed the back cap from the "Montana" as we know it and rebranded it as a "legacy package" (at a higher premium?) I think they really diluted the Montana brand image big time. Quite frankly, I found it kind of insulting. Keystone has enough entry and mid level 5th wheels with out dragging Montana into the fray. I think they did a "disservice" to the Montana brand.

Our new 3791RD with Legacy Pkg has a flat back. Painted rear cap not an option. You are telling me the best new floorplan is really a Mountaineer?

Don't undertand how you have a flat back if you have the legacy package. That is part of it.

Nope....no molded rear cap. Below is from the Legacy Pkg section of the Keystone website.

Metallic Nickel Painted Fiberglass Rear Cap (N/A 3790, 3791)

I was disappointed when I learned about that before we took delivery but the floorplan, storage, king bed, level up, heated floors, etc. etc. really drove our purchase decision. It is what it is...

But that means we really have a Mountaineer? I think some assumptions are being made here that may not be totally accurate.

I can't speak to why the molded cap isn't an option on their 3790/3791 RD models. It is one w/out a large picture window in the rear.....just two smaller side windows.

I would hope under those restrictions the legacy package upgrade costs less.

They roll out the new models at the fall rally for the attendees to look at and comment on. The Montana and the Montana legacy were clearly identified.

However it clearly says this on the Keystone website .....
Metallic Nickel Painted Fiberglass Rear Cap (N/A 3790, 3791)
Which is something they did not tell us at the factory display.

Was also not aware the the legacy package was a option so the difference between the Montana and the Montana Legacy is a option package. I did not hear any of that at the factory.....

We Looked at a new 2016 3791RD at a local dealer a couple months ago. It had a Legacy decal next to the front entry door. But it also had a flat back. It did have MCD shades which is part of the Legacy package. Did not check for other package items.

I think the Legacy option is something like $6,000 (MSRP).

Montana 3791RD with the Legacy Pkg includes:
*Exclusive MOR/Ryde LRE 4100 Suspension
*Premium Ultra High Gloss ‘Noble Classic’ Fiberglass Exterior
*Solid Hardwood Residential Cherry Cabinet Framing
*Quiet Cool Air Conditioning System
*MCD Day/Night Roller Shades (Living Area Only)
*Under Floor Heated Upper Deck Bedroom and Bathroom Floor (N/A 3710, 3711)

We also added the double pane windows and the wheels/tires upgrade. Premium for the Legacy pkg alone was about $4,000.

There's definitely a flat back on the 3791RD. I may be washing it too often but believe me.....I'm learning every square inch of this thing. Takes about 1.5 - 2.0 hrs to wash and dry this baby and am I beat after it's done. Really ticks me off when I get bugs on it just driving it to storage....

Glad I have a '14 with the 4100 suspension, High Gloss sides, Solid wood, Quite Cool as standard equipment and did not have to pay extra for it, plus got a rear cap. All at no charge? (since it was standard equipment)

What I see is marketing making "cost improvements" and giving the owners options of just how much do they want to spend. We wanted a Montana. Now we have to buy a Montana with "optional" options.

What matters is price out the door. I think I was treated fairly and got an excellent buy.

I just have to laugh at the Legacy Package which we do have when it says "heated bathroom and bedroom floor". It seems that we have maybe a square foot of heated floor in the bathroom next to the shower. Does not even heat the floor in front of the sink. Surprised that they can describe the heated floor in their sale phamplet as it is not even close to being accurate.
Oh yeah I did get the molded back cap.
