WOW! Hopefully nobody was seriously injured. The river right now is quite high with the spring run-off and is flowing very fast. The bridge had been surveyed not too long ago and many weak points had been identified. I guess mother nature beat the repair man. With luck, the Army Corps of Engineers will bail us out on this in the short term anyway.

I have been over this bridge many times and many others that are older bridges, it was not mother nature that took this span out, according to K5 news it was an over sized vehicle hitting the right hand uprights which caused the span to collapse. The most important thing is the safety of the people on the bridge when it happened, hopefully they were all rescued and safe.

I just spoke to a friend who lives about 2 hours from there. She said there are no fatalities and only 3 were taken to the hospital with no serious injuries! Wow!

Too close to home but with a much better ending than the I-35 bridge collapse here in Minneapolis a few years ago.

What a scary experience. CNN said one of the drivers was towing his trailer behind the semi and saw it hit the bridge before the bridge dropped with he and his wife on it.

We live about an hour south from there and have crossed that bridgeore times than we can count. Have family in Anacortes we visit and many ski trips with the kids to Big White.

One eyewitness saw the oversize load hit the top girders. Still under investigation this morning.

Glad our trip to Banff is taking us through Idaho...

Sure going to be messy for some time to come.

Glad everyone caught in it will be OK.

Yep, a Driver with a oversize Load hit the side and brought it down as a former Driver I know it is MY responsibility to know the weight limits and clearance of any bridge, thank God nobody died it could have turned out a lot worse, I am sure the Driver is pretty traumatized for his mistake

So glad they got it open. While it was pretty quick I'll bet folks who live up in that part of the world didn't think it was quick enough! Hopefully we'll be on the road soon and may even test that new bridge! Dennis
