Makin Bacon
After seeing Ozz's post on grilling bacon, got me thinking I should pass this on. About two years ago I was looking for a better way to cook bacon. Of course we pan fried it just the way we liked it and then drained it on paper towels. Then we started microwaving it on a plate lined with paper towels and we probably used a half a roll of towels to cook a pound of bacon. Then while walking through Wal-mart one day I saw a product called "Makin Bacon".
You hang about 1/2 pound of bacon on the rack, cover with one large paper towel and microwave. Once you get the time down pat, the bacon cooks perfectly. Grease drains into the drip pan and is easily emptied by a handle that somehow stays cool. We bought one for the house and had to get another for the Monty. About 10 bucks at Wallys. We love it and will never go back to the old way of cooking bacon. BTW, it was invented by an 8 year old girl and she and her dad built the first one.

All these bacon post, you guys must be rich. I consider that eating high on the hog. If I can get any thing close to bacon these days it is turkey bacon - bout all I can afford. With the price of bacon these days it is approaching the price of a good steak.

Go down to Aldi's and pick up some of the bacon they have that is already cooked and in a box. They have original and maple flavored and all you do is place it on a plate, pop it in the microwave for about 10 seconds and you have some great bacon for "sammiches"as Ozz says or anyother thing you want to use it for! We carry it along in the Monte and have it at the farm for quick breakfasts or BLTs. YUM!!!

Eating bacon is not "high" on the hog, it is actually pork bellies so that makes "low" on the hog. I guess the only thing lower would be pickled pigs feet, and I draw the line there.

If it's a male pig, there's actually other things that are lower that bacon, but I'm gonna stop right now! I am not only not gonna touch that, I definitely will not be cooking and eating it.
That's a clever device but it looks like it will take up a lot of room. I guess other stuff can be stacked inside of it, but then that adds some time to get it out to use it. You gotta also not mind that the bacon is "bent" when done and since I like crispy bacon, they will probably crack in half, too, but I don't suppose that's too big a deal if it's quick!

We love bacon and have used the "fully cooked" bacon when we can get it on a great sale at the store. Fabulous! You can microwave it or pan fry it to your desired crispness. And it's totally flat! Make awesome BLTs.
Otherwise, we love to cook the regular bacon outside and drive our neighbors crazy or use our older microwave bacon cooker.

Setting up my favorite electric fry pan on a table outside drives our neighbors crazy too...I do that and drain the fat into the fire pit to make easier starting for the next person. Ready to add the hash browns and eggs... Oh shut-up Helen, you are making me hungry.

Mmmmmm, Mountain oysters. Us Missouri Hillbillies will eat just about anything and if you grew up as poor as I did, you "Learn" to love it or go without.
