Goodyear G614's for 5er
In case you are considering these tires, they seem to be available at Sams Club for $215 each. PSFORD99 found them in Utah for that price and I found them here in San Antonio for that price also.
I haven't decided on having them installed there or not. Any suggestions????
Phil

If you are going for them I would also recommend the all mental valve stems that have a nut on one end and tighten down. The extra money is worth if and I feel esential if you are going to run any tire pressure monitoring system

Can, or will Sam's install those tires? I'm not sure my Sam's could handle a Montana...have to back it in the shop, still don't know if it would fit.

Tom, I will go by there tomorrow and see what the parking is like and the access. The guy that priced them said they do not have to put it in the garage to do the tires. I'm just concerned about manuerving.
garyka, they will go on my stock rims, which are the Tredit,(TR6), wheels. They were recertified for the higher pressure tires.
My original idea was to have them installed by LonnieB in Texico, NM. I was originally leaving here in late March, but have to leave by the 14th of this month so am really concerned about the unpredictability of the weather near Clovis, NM.

Hey Phil. Even though they might have more weight rating than you need, I believe there's nothing wrong with a stronger tire than what you need if you don't mind spending the dough.
Tom (TLightning). If you went to Sam's for tires I am pretty sure they'd accomodate you by suggesting where to park your rig while they installed new tires. I am sure they won't turn away business.
Garyka, you need to check the wheel rating for these tires. I understand it would be stamped on the inside of the wheel. Aren't these tires the ones that can hold up to 110 psi? If the wheel is rated okay, then they'll be okay.
If you know the weight of your rig (at each wheel would be even better) you might not need to inflate the tires all the way up to 110 psi or you might create an poor wear issue. You should become familiar with the tire's inflation table. There will be a minimum inflation and increments up to the maximum. If your trailer fits in the table then by all means, go for it. I expect they would perform better with the extra capability.

Art, I shouldn't have to inflate them all the way up, but pretty close. Will check the inflation charts for these tires before rolling out. Thanks for the reminder..... They're probably more than I need, BUT, I have to have some confidence in my tires again. Don't mind paying the extra bucks for that confidence....We have a lot, as we all do, invested in this rig and need to protect it as much as I can.....

I got my local tire shop to match Sam's price, one that I deal with for my truck tires, thats always an option if you do not want to deal with Sam's. I won't take my fifth wheel to them, I will remove the tires and wheels, and take to them to mount and balance the new ones. That will give me a chance to pack the bearings, and adjust ,and inspect the brakes.

I have used Sam's for tires in the past with great success, but not with the 5er. I agree, they will probably be willing to help you get parked where they can get to them. Mine are on aluminium rims I bought at Tredit. My OEM rims on the Big Sky were from Carlisle, and not rated for 110.

That's a good price. I paid $1,216 for 4 at Camping World in NC which included mounting, valve stems, etc. I had no choice as I was on the road and dealing with Carlisle blow-outs.I priced these tires back home and they wanted $400 - 450 a tire...crazy!!!

I have been running the G614's for two years now and find them to be very satisfactory. That is a good price. If I remember right, I paid right at $1000 for four, mounted balanced and metal stemmed. At the time, that was a great price.

Phil, I've only run about 600 miles with them but as Stiles said in above post and from everybody that has them they are holding up very well! I am running max air 110# and I believe that is controversial as how much air to put in for the Montana weight.

Phil, i picked up a set of G614's including the spare last July after shreding one of the old ones. I am really grateful and feel much safer of course with the heavier ones on the coach. I suspect you of course will get all 5 replaced at the same time. Take the spare and copare it to the G614 before they mount it and you will feel the differance in weight between the two. I noticed they don't flex as much like the old ones when turning as you back in on hard surface.

Please follow the manufacturer's recommendations for tire pressure, which is based on the tire load. I think you will find that the pressure will be about 80=85 psi, which will give you a substantial margin of safety. Automatically inflating to the maximum pressure indicated on the sidewall for these tires will dramatically overinflate them, shorten their life, and create a much stiffer ride.

If you want to use the Goodyear PDF for tire pressures go to http://www.goodyear.com/rv/pdf/rvbrochure.pdf
There are several factors to consider...the G614 tires are LT tires and the pressure ratings include handling characteristics for vehicles not trailers. Additionally, if you have not weighed your rig, you need to know the GVWR of each model. My BS shipped dry with approximately weight of 13,000# but has a GVWR of 16,150. Additionally I have 7,000 pound axels meaning a weight load rating of 3,500# per wheel. 80# pressure is rated for a 3,042# wheel load, 100# is rated for 3,550 and 110# is rated for 3,750 loads. So...my best fit according to the chart would be 100# tire pressure assuming I am close to the max GVWR.

The G614's were on 3 of our 5th wheels and the sidewall said 110 lbs of pressure and I maintained 110 lbs. My reason is if the tire isn't at 110 lbs the tire can flex more, therefore flexing will cause heat to build up. And we all know heat isn't good for rubber. And at road speed the tires will go up about 8 to 10 percent. Never had a issue. I have Goodyear 17.5" G114s and the side wall calls for 125 lbs cold pressure. I also run the Pressure Pro system. I highly recomend the Goodyear G614s and or the G114s. GBY...

Steve, Thanks a bunch for the chart. Looks like about 95 psi for me. I have about 3300 per tire. That should work fine...
