Just purchased a 2010 326RLT Montana Mountaineer. Hope to take possession early this week. Anything special we should ask about when getting instructions from the dealer on using it?

First thing you want to do is a complete PDI (PreDelivery Inspection)

You can get a few PDI lists HERE

Do a very thorough PDI on the entire rig, inside and out, and have the dealer make any necessary corrections BEFORE you sign the final papers. Just because the Mountaineer is brand new DO NOT take anything for granted including the dealer.

Congratulations on your new purchase!!! One thing for sure is complete a deatiled PDI and work with your Dealer; it's so important. We purchased ours on May 2, 2009 and spent about 4 hours on our own going over the unit before doing anything final on the sales contract.
The Dealer was very helpful with the Tech and the Salesman. As of today we are still finding little things, that we continue to add to our list. (Our Unit goes back in late September to do some of the bigger waranty issues like decals etc,)
If it wasn't for this Club we would have been on our own without a PDI on purchase date and yet with questions we have even now in getting to know our Monty. You have made Two Great Accomplishments: A new Monty and joining this Club!! Ellis

Thanks for all the advice. Have printed the delivery inspection checklist for us to go over. I don't think we looked at anything on our 28-ft travel trailer when we took possession and it's been wonderful. We have some camping experience now and this is a little more investment so we'll look closer this time around.

Will definitely be a trailer warming party when it arrives - details to follow.

Congratulations. Most important is to take your time when during the PDI. Do not be rushed and as stated before ask a lot of questions.

All you guys really helped us a lot and unfortunately we don't have a new Montana. Total fiasco when we went to pick it up from the dealer (a dealer that is located all across the US). We traveled approximately 120 miles to pick up the new 5th wheel, with two grandchildren who are visiting during this purchase time, found a sitter for the grandchildren's dog that we are also taking care of, and it was about 100 degrees outside. Can't begin to tell you everything that was not right about this deal but guess it wasn't meant to be. Because it was new, it wasn't in perfect condition and we didn't believe everything the dealer said just like one of you mentioned. The PDI was great to use. We're now looking at SOB. Hope to have a new 5th wheel before the 4th of July.

I don’t think you should be put out on Montana’s just because of one raw deal. They are a very great fifth wheel for the money. Unless you are strictly intending on a new purchase, you can get good deals on used one also. However, I’m very glad you was wise enough to back out before it was too late. Hang in there you’ll find the ringt one. Keep in touch whatever you do.

If you got the hickory line make sure you pay attention to the remote controls.
I have a new 3150 Montana withthe remote control that operates some of the main functions. I had a hard time trying to keep the remote control from loosing its memory once it was programmed. working okay at this time.

I would also encourage you not to give up on the Montana brand too quickly. It sounds like you ran into a bad dealer but there are lots of great dealers out there. Montana is a great trailer. We bought our Mountaineer used a few years ago and love it. We go to the RV shows every year to see all the latest models and always wind up back at the Montana display. Someday we hope to trade for a new one with some feature we don't currently have. Good luck!

Calm down and rethink the entire thing. Do not let a bad dealer keep you from a good camper. Glad you were able to determine it was a bad deal and back out of it. BTW.None of the brands will be in perfect condition but a good PDI will help get it in perfect condition.

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and comments. We are not down on Montana fifth wheels because we know Montana makes a good product. Our choice was between the Montana Mountaineer and a Heartland Big Country. The Big Country actually had more of the layout that we wanted but we went with Montana because of the name. This particular fifth wheel just wasn't completely ready for us. We ended up buying the Big Country and so far love it.

I enjoy and appreciate these forums which have helped so much in our purchase and will continue to help. I know all brands have the potential for problems. We're just ready to enjoy camping. Hope to see some of you around the country.
