Maybe the last Cambridge

Just browsing and found this new 06 Keystone Cambridge (discontinued) still on the lot - nice features with partial body paint - complete with a BLACK FRIDGE , but it is a side by side.

Dealer about 20 miles from me in South Carolina had 2 news about a month or so ago. Don't know if he has sold them, but he was looking for offers. Both were super nice.

I have said it before, and will say it again. Keystone sure made a mistake by stopping production on this coach.

There's one in Las Cruces, NM, too. Not sure of dealer's name, but take Exit 140 off I-10 and go south one block.

There is at least one at Outdoor Travel in Hamilton Ontario but as someone else said one would need a larger truck to haul it. Diana

Would owning the last Cambridge be like owning the last Ford Edsel????

E Sven - I'm sure it would be no different than owning the last of the Big Sky's! I was thinking about trouble getting parts, but I guess we all face that as the models get changed through the years.

It is a heavy beast though! I would have to go to an 18K hitch to meet the GVW. I also noticed last week they were asking $93K for it, now it says "call for price".

If anyone is really thinking about buying a Cambridge now is the time. I have talked with a few dealerships and while talking price, I made 2 of them offers. One accepted and one came back with a $3,000 higher quote then my original. Scary thing, the offer I made them was lower than what I paid for my 3400RL brand new back in 2004 and they both would take my 3400RL in trade.

We now have 15000 miles towing on our Cambridge. All in all, we've had very few problems. Just glad we got it before it was discontinued. Actually, I believe ours was one of the early ones off the line even though we bought it in July of 2005. Our only caution is to make sure the rear tires on the tow vehicle can handle the pin weight. It runs 3500 to 3800 depending on how it is loaded.

We still get comments like "THat is the nicest looking fiver I have ever seen" when we pull into camp grounds. That and "Man, that thing is big-- you just kept coming and coming and coming."

We still double flash our lights when we see a Montana or Mountaineer The Cambridge may be discontinued but this family goes on forever.

I REALLY like that Convenience Center setup. Lose the couch, though... With the dry weight and CC, you will be closing in on 17K behind the truck. Ford 1 ton might handle it, but not a lot else under the MDT class would work. How's your new tv working, Dave (Dave e Victoria)?

Dsprik,

Is some of the material on the couch the same as the Venitian Gold package in your Montana?

It is a nice rig, but we bought our Montana because of the weight we would be pulling. We looked at several other brands but they were to heavy. How big of a TV would you need to safely pull a rig like this?

Driftwoodgal,
The Chevy Kodiak 4500 would tow the Cambridge, as would one of my other favorite tow vehicles, the Freightliner M2 Sportchassis. =)

Colleen, the couch looks like an ugly hybrid between the original material (the pillows and back) and the new Venetian Gold colors (the cushions and lower part. Cheryl does not like the green color that they are apparently trying to change to.

I also heartily agree with Dave (Montana Sky) on the 4500 (F-450) for the Cambridge.

Dave and Dave,
The 3500 GMC Dually is working great as a tow vehicle for the Cambridge. This summer, we towed about 12,000 miles -- all the way from AZ to the northern tip of Newfoundland and back with side trips im between. We were in heavy mountains, and rough roads as well as freeways. Bubba never missed a lick. We are very pleased.

As for capacity, I am within every rating on the truck except combined gross weight. I miss by about 10 percent.

I looked real hard at the 4500 Kodiak before we bought Bubba. It has a larger combined gross weight rating BUT, the truck weighs more so I would have still been well over the 26,000 pound rating. Having said that, I believe the 4500's CGWR is set for political rather than real engineering design. We drove a new 4500 and found it to be very rough and uncomfortable when unloaded even though it had air everything. We did not try it as a TV. It was also near to $20,000 more expensive, did not have the LLY engine, the 6 speed allison, or on star. And, the clincher was Vikki didn't like it. Case closed. Looking back, I am very happy with the decision we made.

Dave and Victoria -

I thoroughly enjoyed your writeup on the Cambridge! Thank you for posting it. You even pointed out a few additional features that I was unaware of.

It would sure be nice if Montana rolled over some of those lower cost features into the new "higher end" Montana pending release!

Now to just find one...........oh - and to try to convince the DW why we need the high end unit to camp on weekends!
