3400 recliners

Just a quick question for 3400 owners. Can you close the rear slides with out turning the recliners back to back? We are looking at upgrading from a 2980rl but have lots of problems with my bad back moving the recliners to travel. Would love to find a love seat that fits but thats another problem with no luck to date.
Thanks for any feed back. Is there more room in the back in the 2007 model year?

Dick and Jackie,
I have to turn the recliners back to back in order to close my slides. A way around this is switch your sofa and recliners. If you put the recliners in the dinner table slide, you do not have to turn them to close the slides. You just have to make sure you have the sofa as close to the rear window as possible to ensure the slides slide by it. Another option is to not order the recliners at all, Flexsteel makes a 2 place wall hugging movie theater style recliner w/ built in foot rest.
I am looking into getting them for my coach.

Dave,

When you get them let us know how they work. My back isn't all that bad and I don't like moving the recliners around.

Thanks

I have a bad back and we moved the sofabed to the rear and replaced the recliners with Palliser recliners from Discount Furniture, CA. on line. These recliners have a built in lumbar which is great on the back. The are mfg. in Vancouver, BC and are shipped to the U.S.A. at n/c and no sales tax. For your info.

I have had 4 major back surgeries and can't lift or move anything. I had my daughter and her friend move the recliners next to the dining room table and the couch to the rear of the trailer. I don't have to move anything as the recliners are in the livingroom slide and the couch clears the entertainment and the living room slides when they come in. I also am able to take the coffee table and it rests on top of the couch while we are traveling. Works great for us. Also you can view the TV better that way. This might be an option for you also.

I just turn my recliners back to back and put the end table between them. I put one adjustable bungy cord over the recliner near the slide . Then I bungy the second recliner to the first.
You slide them a wee bit this way but it is no work for me at all but I still pull wrenches for a living so sliding a couple of recliners around feels like playing. We didn't find these recliners comfortable at first but now that we are used to them we like them.

Dick and Jackie, we intend to do as the others said and swap recliner and couch location.

Also, the idea about not getting the recliners and getting your own aftermarket is a good one, too. Don't let the dealer tell you you cannot get it without the recliners. We are getting just one recliner. The other one we deleted for credit.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

We did exactly as Kathi and really like this arrangement. I think it gives a cozier look to the coach as well. We may remove a dining chair or two if we head south this winter. This arrangement makes it very easy when putting in the slides. Nothing needs to be done with the recliners and just check to make sure the sofa is back far enough to clear the slides coming in. Love our 3400!

We have made the move between the sofa and chairs. We love our recliners and the sofa. We take the cushions off the sofa and put them between the recliners which keeps them from swiveling. We don't have to move the recliners when traveling. This is a much better arrangement for TV viewing also. And there is room behind the recliners to store things while traveling. We remove the sofa cushions so we don't have to have the sofa back so far as it hits the blinds if back far enough for cushions to clear the slides.

I would like to swap the couch with the recliners, but the screws that hold down the couch are a real pain in the butt to get out. Why does keystone use those funky screws??

We didn't have any screws holding the couch down. Perhaps it is the hide a bed (which we have) as it is probably heavier than the jack knife couch.

Thanks every one for your input. My wife wants a 3600re except it looks like you can't see the tv from the rear recliner. If we go with this model I would want to delete the TV and add a flat screen on a swivel. The dealer told me you can't delete anything on the standard list. Very interesting. He also told me they all come with a king bed, but when you look at the options the king is extra money.

Also I have a 2006 and 2007 MSRP price list if any one needs a copy. Please email me off line and I will scan it and send it as a .jpg.

Thanks again,

There are no screws holding our sofa bed to the floor. We have a space problem We did not get one recliner or the end table.. There is 92 inches in the rear of the 3400. 1 recliner is 31 1/2 inches wide the 3.3 cu inch freezer that we got is 21 1/2 inches wide. That is 53 inches That leaves 39 inches. The *&^))% bird cage will be @ 24 inches wide which will account for @ 77 inches of that space..not much wiggle room.. I think the sofa bed in the rear is a much bettter arrangement but we just can't do it..

5rvers, I think the jacknife sofa is the only one with screws. It might be necessary to have the screws so the couch doesn't move when you're breaking it down into a bed. I'm not sure about that.

Rldriver, sounds like you're dealer is making his own rules. We have a new Montana on order and should take delivery this week. We deleted one of the recliners for credit. We first talked with Keystone to make sure it is something we can do. Our salesman was on vacation. Make the actual change through the dealer, though.

The King bed is an extra cost option, as you noted, on our model. We declined that option and are getting the queen bed.

Either your dealer has his own rules or he's not fully educated. If you don't mind, I'll email you for a copy of your price sheet. I'd like to compare it to ours. I've always wondered how much of those price lists comes from Keystone and how much is the dealer's.

Our couch was not screwed down. The recliners had straps which you had to remove to use anyway. Never put them back on. We also unscrewed the table as it was too close to the blinds and have never put the screws back. The table did hit the cabinet once but I put a towel over the end of the table now to prevent that from happening. This was when we were in Montana on unpaved, ungraded road.

YES, I have four (4) screws holding down my jacknife couch. I agree with what Steve said that the screws are probably needed so the couch doesn't move when you're breaking it down into a bed.

I also agree with what FireTruckerWife said that perhaps the hide a bed does not need any screws because it is heavier than the jacknife.

The jackknife screws to the floor with standard square head screws. I took them out to reposition the couch and it's really got a cheap frame work and is not very stable when it is loose from the floor. I was concerned that if some one slid side ways the legs would fold and then it would really be close to the ground.
