I would suspect the fingers that hold it tight to the kingpin are getting worn. May be time to spend the 10 bucks on a new one.

I had one do that and just replaced it. I suspect my kingpin stabilizer caused the problem. I have the type with the can sitting on the large screw and it rotates against the pad when tightening it. So now I don't tighten it so tight and have had no more problem. Or maybe it's because that loose pad had been moved to its fourth fifthwheel.

I agree with Ron. The fingers are the only thing that holds it on the kingpin so that would have to be the problem. With two 5'ers I've never had one come off so I guess I've gotten my moneys worth.

Steve,

A possible solution for the king pin stablizer cutting into the teflon pad. Take a cutting board, one of those made from that hard white plastic, and cut a hole the size of the king pin in the center of the cutting board. Use the cutting board between the king pin/telflon pad and the stablizer. You can pretty much tighten it up as much as you want, cause the cutting board will protect the teflon pad.

Lay the disk on a hard surface. Take a hammer and hit the very end of the fingers. This will flatten the finger ends and slightly lengthen them. Then place the disk back on the kingpin and it will fit real snug and not fall off. Works great - real cheap.

Wow, Campbud they should last a lot longer than that. I have had mine for years. Probably close to 10-12 years. I have pulled it off when I traded and reinstalled it on the new trailer a couple of times. Maybe try what palebluedot is stating and see if ti helps. Otherwise I would be inclined to think you got a bad one to begin with.

I've sure learned a lot in this thread!

Campbud, that disk has not been removed except for it removing itself, right? It definitely should last far longer than that. Years and years, in fact.
