Suzanne and I (Bill) sold our SoCal condo late April and purchased a 2005 3295RK and a 2005 Silverado 2500 Duramax to travel full time for a year or so while looking for a sustainable farming ranchette/farmette hopefully somewhere in the West. We had never RV'd before so our learning curve has been pretty steep but we've been meeting many very helpful people along the way and have avoided any real serious problems so far. Have already put 12,000 miles on the rig and looking forward to many more.
We are currently in Colorado and loving this beautiful state. We campground hosted at the Maroon Bells outside of Aspen at 9500 feet for the month of July and capped it off by climbing North Maroon Bell at 14,000+ feet on our last day there. That leads me to a problem that we picked up there, that is, MICE.

Do any of you know any steps to eliminate the mice for good, besides trapping them? Any procedures for plugging holes and eliminating their scent trails would be greatly appreciated.

Moth balls will get rid of the mice.

Welcome Bill and Suzanne. You made 2 great decision last year (Montana and GM Chevrolet) and this year you made another - joined this great forum.

Welcome aboard, Bill and Suzanne! We've never had the mice problem (knock wood) so I don't know if I can help with that. But, to help keep out the cold from getting into the belly area I filled every opening I could find with that expanding foam insulation, from the spray can. Also in the basement storage area and in the front locker. Sorry I cannot help more. Maybe others here will see your question and have some answers.

We have never had mice get into any of our trailers. But we do put moth balls in the basement storage areas and a few in the living area just before parking it in storage for the winter. We also put them around the house in the spring and fall and we have never seen any in the house or garage. You might want to put out a few moth balls before sealing up every little hole or you may trap one of the little varmints in the trailer that will transition into an odor later. I grew up with my mother deathly afraid of mice and she put out moth balls all the time. It seemed like as you approached our house you could smell the moth balls getting stronger as you got closer. But we never seen one there as a child. So, I have adopted moms habit of putting them around everything, and so far so good.

Thank you all for your greetings and replies to my mouse question. I will be picking up some moth balls today and try to get the mice out before plugging the obvious holes.
Just got back from hiking to the top of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls here in Colorado. Off to Pagosa Springs tomorrow for some hot springs therapy.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on moving to Montana. Hope you find a good solution soon to your mouse problem. Where we live we really have to watch out for the chipmunks - they are just as bad as the mice. Enjoy your travels.

I don't think you'll ever find all the places a mouse can get in. I would recommend that you get a mouse repellant at a good feed store or use mothballs. We have been fighting with red squirrels and they seem to be smarter than me.
