Storm Doors

Last year at the rally many of you had storm doors made from plexi glass. Well, Chuck has finally made one for us.
While he was making it I searched for decals like many of you had. I found this company www.pandasproducts.com by luck. They are great to deal with and have a large selection.
Hopes this saves someone all the hunting I did.

Carol: Do you and Chuck still have the Class A or have you go back to a Montana yet?
We have also changed our screen door into a Lucite covered door. Now we can leave it open for the brightness while the a/c is on or the furnace depending where and when we are out. Thanks for the link. We have been looking for something like this for a long time.

Is your kind of a door the same as plexi glass? That's what we wanted was to be able to leave it open regardless of the weather.
I feel closed in with the big door closed. I was also thinking of
putting a shear curtain there for a more homey feel. But that might be in the way too much.

I guess it is the same as plexi-glass. Lucite is supposed to be 10x stronger than glass which we thought would be better for the door. Agree with the curtains as the dogs would love them.

Most of the installations we have seen have the Plexi-glass/Lucite mounted on the outside of the door. We have ours installed on the inside. I will post a pic if anyone is interested.

Why did you put it on the outside instead of the inside? Our biggest problem was finding those little hookie things to hold it in place.

Ok: Here are some pics. The lucite is mounted on the inside of the door. http://community.webshots.com/album/403156639oVfnuZ
Took me 3 edits to get the link right.
The reason we mounted in on the inside was so the dogs wouldn't be jumping up on the screen and possibly pushing the storm off and also we don't have to go outside to take the panels off if we want some fresh air.

Where do you get this Lucite for your storm doors? I had plex-o-glass in my mh door and liked this. But my husband doesn't think this can be put on our doors. Looks like the Lucite would work.

Try Home Depot or Lowes. I am not sure if Lucite or Plexi-glass is the same but I think it is. The one thing that makes our installation different than others I have seen is the white plastic edging around the sides and top of the Lucite to hold it in the opening better.

Mark and Donna (mgdg) I actually bought the Lucite from Home Hardware but didn't mention that store in my post as they don't have Home in the U.S. They also have it at Rona.

What a great idea. I want one too! Great pictures. Did the lucite come w/the frame? Also, what did u do to solve the door handle area?
Going to print this out for the "honey do" list.

John and Marianne (syplace) The frame was separate. The door handle area is a piece of lucite to fit the area left of the slider. The slider is a clear slider which replaced the white one. We got it at CW.
