Uneven tire wear on two back tires

I have a 2004 Montana 3670 with about 12,000 miles on the original tires. I am seeing excessive tire wear on the inside edge of the back two tires. The tire pressure is correct. My local Keystone dealer says that it most likely is a weight issue with the unit. The front two tires are fine.I personally do not feel that it is an overload problem..I have not weighed the unit, but I know what I have on board. The Dealer suggested that I rotate the tires.Has anyone encountered this problem. If so, what was the solution?

Excessive wear on the inside edge is a camber problem. Your situation sounds like a bent or out of line axle. The tires are tilted slightly outward / \.
I feel a weight issue would effect both axles. Rotating without knowing the problem is also not the answer.

Most RV shops are not equiped for this type of alignment problem. I would suggest looking in the yellow pages for an alignment shop equiped and trained for such a problem. Typically one that specializes in truck alignments would be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction.

Glenn is right in what he has suggested. Not every wheel and axle shop can handle your 3670. You will have to find one tall enough to get you on their machine. Axles can be straightened. The cost where I am is around $125 to $150. Replacing the axle is considerably higher. Replacement is all your dealer knows to do.

Glenn and Stiles are right. An alignment specialist can also tell you if the axles are bent or just out of alignment. We paid $150 to have ours aligned and have put about six thousand miles on the trailer since then and the tires are wearing very nicely. Before that we had the same excessive inner tire wear you are seeing. I can't say it will fix your problem but it's sure worth finding out.

Had my 2001 3280RL aligned after replacing the worn out shackles. The rear axle had about 1/4" toe out on both ends and the camber was off. The front was also off a little. Facinating watching them bend the axles to set the toe in and camber. A little scary watching them back the Monty out over the alignment pit on those narrow ramps. Whole process took about 2 hours and cost $250 but worth every penny.

The guy told me they get a lot of trailers and everyone is out of alignment. Some more than others. Even the brand new ones from the RV dealership right next door. He also said it was a good idea to balance the tires. The spin the same speed as the TV and should be balanced.

My 2 cents are the same as the others info. We had all 4 tires doing the same thing. Both axles need to be "bent" to bring the cambers into spec. We were not overloaded. Sounds like your back axle may need that to be done.

One other possibility, if the weight distribution in your rig is really aft, that COULD put an overload on the back axle and cause the same problem. You would have to really have a strange weight distribution (like a motorcycle on some sort of rear carrier) to be that far out of balance. And it would be a miserable tow.

Best,
