Another Question re: Hunter Thermostat

Tomorrow I am going to replace the stock thermostat for a Hunter Model 44260. It wires exactly like the 42999 but also allows programming temperature ranges during day and nite. It also lets you set the sensitivity of the thermostat. From as sensitive as coming back on when +or- 1 degree. My dealer thinks that could be a problem for the a/c. That it would cycle on and off too much before the pressure is relieved. I don't know if this concern is valid or not. Are you setting yours to be a bit less sensitive. Say 3-4 or 5 degree change before it kicks back in.
I personally feel the advantage especially in winter is to have the heater run less but more often due to cycling before temp has gotten too far away from it, rather than having to pull the atmosphere inside up 5-10 degrees to get back to the desired setting.
So if any of you can give me some insight here it would be appreciated,
Thanks
Bob

Bob,
I left mine at the 1 degree sensitivity and have no problems. It seems to me the running time is much shorter now than before. Perhaps we will get more opinions.

I may be wrong, but I think the new A/C units have a timer circuit that prevents short cycling of the compressor to eliminate damage. Setting the temp differential at +/- 1 degree should not have any detrimental impact. You can test the protection circuit by turning the thermostat off and immediatly back on. The compressor will not turn on for a couple of minutes.

Ours is on 1 also and no problems. But ours is not one of the newer models.
