We have the same package as Montana Sky (2004 Chevy 2500HD, Duramax/Allison, 2005 3400RL) and are very happy with it. Haven't towed the miles yet that many have, but will be taking it out through the mountains in Colorado this summer and Maine this fall. The numbers between the 3500 and 2500HD were surprising. The 2500HD had more towing capacity than the 3500. No problems so far - just like the man who jumped off the 30 story building. He was heard at the 5th floor saying "so far, so good".

BigSk, you were right to not wait on the quadrasteer. I recently read GM is dropping it. I don't think it was a technical or mechanical problems, it just wasn't selling in the required numbers.

That's a shame. A Quadrasteer 3/4 or 1-ton would have been a sure-fire hit with RVers. Let's see: How about a Cummins HO TCD, Allison (soon to be 6-speed?) auto transmission, Quadrasteer, integrated Tow Command Package plus whatever other personal preference items you want. Where do we sign up?

Sorry, Bill, but I prefer the combination I now have! I'm still convinced it can't be beat. And I'm sure everyone else here will probably feel much the same about theirs, regardless of brand! My personal feeling about the quadrasteer is that it had excellent potential but was so counter to many years of driving experience that few felt the need or wanted to learn all over again. Just my opinion. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Below is a link to an article about the detuned (250 hp) Duramax that will be available in fullsize Chevy/GMC vans in 2006. Should be a good TV for the travel trailer folks.
