A question about controlling my A/C

I think I'm confusing myself.

I have a 2013 3400rl
It has the thermostat that controls 2 zones. I am trying to figure out how to manually control the zones separately, as in keep the big one off at night, and run only the little one in the bedroom.
I have read the owner's manual, but it made zero sense to me. Anyone care to try and educate me? This is making me bonkers.

This s how it works on my 2009 3585RL:
Air conditioning turn on:

a. Select the ZONE button and press until "ZONE 1" blinks at the bottom of the screen.

b. Press the mode button until the system sets to cool. When that is done repeat the process for ZONE 2 which is the bedroom AC. NOTE: It takes a few minutes for the systems to start.

When you are in the zone modes, you can turn on/off, adjust temps etc. Hope this helps.

Our 2014 is not the same model but possibly the same air/heat control unit. There should be buttons for "fan" and for "zone", among others. You just have to get on zone 2 (bedroom) and set whatever you want. Then go to zone 1 and set it for whatever you want.

Noticed something the other day with my thermostat. Couldn't get Zone 2 A/C to run. Didn't want the other one to run while we were watching the tv. Finally I figured it out. Zone 1 was set to furnace. That prevented the zone 2 A/C/ unit from starting. Never even considered that would be the case, but it makes sence. Glad someone smarter than me is designing these things.
