How to protect from of truck on Alaska Trip
Any suggestions or ideas how to protect the front of the truck, like the headlights and the front area of the Monty from rock damage in case we hit some big construction areas on the way to Alaska?
Thanks

When we traveled through Alaska in 2008 we did not have a problem with rock damage. When the big rigs were coming at us from the other direction we just slowed down and pulled to the right. We traveled over 10,000 miles with no rock damage.
Some vendors sell a stick on clear vinyl that you can put over your headlights but we opted not to bother with it.

When we went in 2004 and 2010 we had no problems with rocks. We slowed down for bad roads and passing big rigs. Also we have mud flaps on the dually to protect the front of the Montana. Just go an enjoy yourself.

Bob,
The Caravans sell grill protectors (screens) to their clients. We traveled w/friends and concur w/advice above: 1) Take your time and watch for the frost heaves, 2) don't follow too closely, and 3) when vehicles, especially big rigs/semis, approach from the opposite direction on gravel, slow down and move right if possible. We had no damage or problems on our trip.

We traveled to Alaska in 2007--no problems with rock damage. As others have said--slow down, don't follow closely to anyone in front of you--hopefully you will have the road to yourself most of the time. You will drive thru construction zones but it will be at very slow speeds. The speeders will be in the ditches next to the road! Have a great trip.

Echo everyone else. Slow down and pull to right when you see oncoming trucks (or those passing you). We made the 10k trip without a chip! Trailer is another story. I would invest in a rock shield like those used on motor homes to protect tow cars. I put on new mud flaps but they were not effective. You will be spewing out a lot of gravel, etc. especially in construction areas!

Like the others have posted, we had no issues. In fact, I didn't pick up a windshield stone chip until a year after we got back!
If you are interested, here's a post on the trip to our 49th state:

Also, I did a work table discussion at one of the Fall Rallies on the trip to/from. I can send you a copy of it if you wish. Just send me an email.
