Introduction

Prairie Girl and I are in the process of buying a Montana 2006 2955RL. We are happy with the design and layout. I have been reading a number of the postings regarding the Montana and get the impression that other than minor issues, most are happy with their units. We have a 2001 F250 Ford Diesel Superduty truck. Has anyone had experience pulling this unit with a similar truck, specifically in mountain conditions. This is our first message in this forum so would apprciate any feedback.

Welcome to the forum fellow Canadians. As you can see by our signature we pull an 03 2955 with a chevy 3/4 crew diesel and it handles it very well indeed. WE definately love the layout of the 2955, of course we have had a few problems, mostly minor, but any and all were looked after with no problem from Keystone and our dealer. From day one we had a problem with our air conditioner freezing up and then causing water to drip from the ceiling. This would happen on the hotest and most humid weekend of the year. Last year they replaced the main pan believing their wasn't sufficient drain holes, well it happened once again this year. In the fall we returned it to our dealer and they totally replaced the air conditioner at no charge, no hassle. Bottom line, most people are pleased with the after sale service. With any problems you encounter I am sure a solution will be found right here on the forum. Keep us posted!!!

Many here pull more weight than a 2955 with trucks just like yours including in mountains. You should have no problem. Welcome to the Montana Owners Club.

Welcome aboard and Happy RVing. I think the 7.3 L diesel is a proven engine. That is what I have in my 2002 F250 Crewcab Longbox. Mine has the tow package, meaning there is an extra leaf in the rear springs. Therefore, I get very little sag when Monty is attached and have no questionable steering characteristics. The Ford has been very stable under all conditions that I have subjected it to. Until you get ready to get a new one, I think this truck will service you well.

We have the same truck and the same model Montana. We have the tow package, as well. We live in southern Oregon and just about anywhere we go camping involves the mountains. We have no problem.

Hi Prairie Boy and Prairie Girl and Welcome to the MOC Family.

As you can see by my signature we also have a 2955RL but we drag ours around using a 2500HD Duramax. The 2955rl is a great rig with a great floor plan. We do use ours full time and are very happy with it. Although we haven't pulled ours through the western mountains we have drug it over the Appalachian and Adirondack Mountains numerous times without any problems what so ever.

Welcome to the forum! We, too, have a 2955RL and love it. Tow w/'05 6L PSD and spent 3 months driving to AK and back from MD. Great trip and no problems! A friend told me (and I agree) give me a hill or mountain any day, rather than a head wind!

Welcome aboard!

Alice and I have a 2005 model 2955RL and pull it with a 1995 Dodge Diesel 2500. Ours is only a 5.7L Cummins so I beefed it up with a Banks Power Pack and Exhaust Brake.

We pull it over 7% grades but under 45 MPH in low gears. This I've
found keeps the exhaust and transmission temperatures at a reasonable level.

We also have the 2955RL and pull it with an 02 Ford extended cab long box diesel. Have only had it since September and only gone on a few short trips. But I will tell you, it pulls like a dream. Our previous 5'vr had 15 inch wheels. It towed like a log wagon in comparison to the Monty. Have fun and enjoy. Use the forum, it is well worth it. All kinds of information and you meet a whole lot of nice people. Richard & Nell

Welcome to the Forum. I see you have already received numerous and good answers to your question, but I will also chime in. We have a 2002 2955RL and tow it with a Chevrolet Duramax with Allison transmission. We have towed 40,000 miles with this pair over the past four years. We are now on the way to the "Texas Valley" where we will have lunch on Thursday with some of our MOC friends in McAllen.

We can only hope you enjoy your Montana as much as we have and as much as we are.

This is a Happy Velentine's Day!

Welcome to the forum! The 2955 is a wonderful floorplan, quite possibly our second favorite after the 3295! You really should not have any problem with your truck/Montana combo, as there are others on the forum that have pulled heavier units—such as ours—in the mountains.

Welcome and congratulations on becoming a Montana owner. Up until this week we towed our 3255RL with a '96 F250 PSD. That truck towed it with ease - no problems, even in the mountains. Enjoy and safe travels.

Hello All,

I just found this forum today and am extremely impressed with what I've read here. Glad I found it. We are in the process of selling our house and going full time in the 2006 Montana 3500RL we bought recently. Loved the floor plan and french doors. Presently we're pulling it with a 1990 Ford F350, Banks Turbocharged 7.3L diesel. It seems to handle it fine but then I'm a nuebee at this. My wife says I need to go to truck driving school to learn how to drive this monster! She's used to a 30' motor home that doesn't pivot in the middle. :-) Look forward to meeting MOC folks in person on the road in the future.

Hello All,

I just found this forum today and am extremely impressed with what I've read here. Glad I found it. In the process of introducing us, I inadvertently posted in the wrong place. Hope this gets to where it should.

Prairie,

Welcome, that's a wonderful choice for a coach, of course since I just bought the same one in the Fall I may be biased.

precisiongizmo,
Unfortunately the only answer is to re-post your message in your OWN thread. We do not have the capability of moving individual posts. We can delete them or edit them but not move them.

By the way... Welcome to the MOC.

Bob, learning to back a fifth wheel is decidedly different from a motor home and, I would add, a travel trailer as well, which is what we had before our Montana. The best advice I received was to practice in a vacant parking lot, but also a transfer truck driver talked to me a long time about utilizing my mirrors more. That helped immensely. The two of you might also want to invest in some walkie talkies so you can work together on backing. Marsha and I have found that to be helpful.

Stay with it and take your time; it will come around!
