Pet Health Insurance

Veterinary care can be expensive. Does the cost of pet health insurance outweigh the benefits or is it a good deal? I'm interested in hearing from folks who have purchased it and used it. If you have had a good experience with a particular company, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks!

No we do not have pet insurance but wish we had. One of our dogs had to have radiation that was very expensive!

We considered it and happened to read a Consumer Reports article that gave a comparison of having the pet insurance and not, then gave a comparison of typical issues (e.g. broken limb). Their conclusion was better to save the $50/month (the cost at the time) in a special account and have that money available for when you might need it. Thus, we did not buy insurance. That being said, we had friends who had pet insurance and swear by it. Be sure you read & understand the policy carefully - it's not like human health insurance - there are a lot of things not covered and there are deductibles.

Good luck with your decision~

We have never had it. I looked into it several years ago and just did not feel it was very good. One problem I remember being mentioned was pre-existing clauses. If your dog had some problem this year and then had it again next year, the insurance would not cover it the next year. Apparently the next years policy was considered a new policy and the previous problem suddenly became a pre-existing condition. Read the fine print carefully.
At the same time, I have read about some who were very pleased with it.

Our Schnauzer's cancer has cost us about $10,000 total.
This is going from original diagnose, scans, ex rays radiation,
follow up treatment, visits, antibiotics, other medicines and etc.

We don't have insurance, but could use it. Our cat is a diabetic and gets two shots of insulin every day, 20/20 hindsight.

Had to take her to doctor today. Noticed a bump on side of her head, on same side she had cancer. They did a biopsy and will know tomorrow. Afraid to think of what this means. Her oncology doctor is concerned too.
Our hearts are broken.

I'm sorry hope this turns out alright. We take Barney Goober to the doctor twice a day, to check for fluid. No fluid for the past 2 weeks.

Hope your Barney is OK. They sure leave a hole in our hearts when they go over the rainbow bridge.
Bonnie acts fine and is not in any pain. She is bright, active and alert. Has a good look out of her eyes.
Have not heard anything from the vet about the biosopy yet.

We had VPI Pet Insurance for Raider for many years and were very glad we did. Of course the younger your pet is when you start the better the price and the coverage.

We too have used VPJ for our pet insurance since Skye (Wild Montana Skye) entered our family. You also get the presidents club discount if you go through their portal. Check Rv view for it.
Not like our health insurance, but helps with the big bills and checkups. Anna, our previous golden, was an epileptic, and medication and blood tests were expensive, around $7000 per year. This helps cushion that.
Our cost is about $44. Per month for best coverage. You can choose your level. I pay almost $300 a month through work for my own. This is a mere pittance, and I don't have to make a choice on Skye's medical care.
And yes Raider's family, goldens are pure love and companions.
