New Montana Brochure

Just saw the new Montana brochure dated January 2018. For now it's only available for download. The mail version is still the November 2016 version. One notable upcoming change will be backup lights as standard equipment. It also talks about the new "crush resistant" A/C ducting. I know this has been a sore spot to many. Here's the link to the download version for those that haven't seen it:

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been researching Montana’s for over a year now. As soon as I’m done with this deployment, I’m gonna take the plunge. This board has given me a ton of preventative maintenance tips/ideas, so my camping trip should be very enjoyable and hopefully, trouble free. My only worry is the dealers nearby don’t have the best reputation for service shops. It could change by the time I become an owner.

OK, I stand corrected
still don't seem to be many around tho
We took delivery end of Nov, unit was 22 days old

Dealer photos still mostly show early build 18's (basically 17's) as available

We got our 18.5 the same day. I think that I had downloaded the 18 brochure back in October or it may have been sent to me by either Tracy Peffley or John Thomas of Keystone.

I can count the number if times I backed up this beast in the dark on one finger...and that was due to bad weather and being delayed. There are a number of things upon which they could have spent money, B/U lights is not one.

I agree with no back up lights. I removed mine and replaced all 4 rear lights with led turn and stop lights. I am about to put a set of trun lights at just behind mid point on each side of the rig. So people will see that I am trying to change lanes or make a turn. Well that is the 10% of the people that know vehicles come with turn signals.

Same here, I didn't realize that they had eliminated the backup lights on the Montana. I found the backup lights to be totally useless when backing in the dark The reflection of my truck backup lights on the front of the trailer were so bright I could hardly see the trailer much less any of the area the trailer backup lights were trying to illuminate.
P.S. I just learned that the backup lights were not standard on all Montana's, only standard on the Legacy package, which is the model we have been looking at.

According to the brochure they are standard. Look on page 12 under "Towing Features". The circle or dot means standard according to the legend at the top of that page. I don't think they have started delivering any units with that feature yet.

I haven't had the experience with backup lights on a trailer but many of you don't like them. Fair enough. Are they useless if you have a backup observation camera?

Most likely, they were never nreally intended for lighting up the RV spot for nighttime backing in. More of an indicator to traffic and pedestrians behind the 5er that the rig is in reverse, and may be coming backwards toward them.

Perhaps a DOT requirement for trailers that are over a certain length or weight?

I have a 2017 3790RD & it has backup lights. I have not used them to backup in the dark. I try not to get into a situation where I have to use them.

Our '18 Legacy has the backup lamps.
I plan to replace all Rear lamps with LED stop/turn tail

Be sure to share how to do that with those of us that are not very mechanically (or electronically) inclined. We have a mid 2018 Legacy model as well. If it doesn't violate any DOT or state laws, I'd like to do the same.

Check this out. I'll let you know if I get arrested by the DOT.

I'm a bit confused when some say that they have backup lights already. Not disputing anything but I've been looking at recent models and haven't seen them. Do they look like the picture in the new brochure I posted above? If not, where are the located?

The tail lights of my 2018 3120rl do not look like the one in the brochure. The back up lights are the small, clear square in the upper center part of the tail light.

That's kind of what I thought. The new backup lights in the brochure look like they might throw out some decent light and therefore might be useful in certain unexpected situations. That's why I said earlier that coupled with a backup camera they might come in handy. In my case I used to back my Alpine into a large garage for the winter and the camera/rear lights would have helped a lot.
