CRE3000: Opinions on oiling

I know the best upgrade to my stock CRE3000 suspension is to install the "heavy duty" upgrade kit with wet bolts and stouter components.

In lieu of that, I occasionally get under there and with my trusty, old fashioned oiler can, squirt a little 30wt oil into all the shackle bolt areas. My theory is that some of this oil will make it's way to the bushings, thus prolonging their life.

Do you think this procedure is ineffectual or a waste of time?

I have a much older Monty (2006) and converted to wet bolts and heavy duty shackles 10 years ago. On my Montana the original inserts used to secure the shackles to the springs were plastic--the industry standard. All were severely deformed after a few years of travel. The wet bolts use a brass insert that you grease annually. It is my understanding that Montana has installed wetbolts on newer units beginning several years ago--but I have not really confirmed that--I have not been shopping!

Pretty good idea, I do the same thing only I use Garage door lubricant in a spray bottle with the little red straw on it to direct the spray, the garage lube seems to leave a waxy oily residue that seems to last longer than straight oil

Walter,

I would have thought your 18 HC came with wet bolts. They should have grease fittings. If it still has the plastic inserts a little oil is not going to do much good.

Our 2012 came with wet bolts. I’m not sure if the High Country comes with them at all. Dexter recommends greasing the wet bolts every 3,000 miles.

My 2001 has wet bolts. I replaced the whole shooting match last year. All new springs/u-bolts/wet bolts/shackles Etc.

The old bronze bushings were toast and came out in pieces. This is with knowing they were well greased many times a year.
