AC Issues on our 2015 High Country

We've been complaining about the AC not working properly since our first trip in our new HC. The first thing we found out was that the two AC units should be ducted together and there should be a dual control thermostat in the galley. Our two ACs are NOT ducted together and we have one thermostat in the galley. The BR AC has controls right on the unit.

Now my husband has discovered that the AC duct work that is there is not properly installed. He felt cold spots on the ceiling and was interested enough to try to figure out why. He opened the ceiling speaker grill and put his hand up and discovered that there was a three inch gap that in the duct work that was sloppily and ineffectively bridged with duct tape. The tape had a huge gap in it so cold air was escaping and not making it to the vents. He found the same issue on the other side of the ceiling.

Quality control folks must have been on a lunch break when our AC was installed. We are not amused. He finally got hold of someone at Keystone; parts have been ordered and sent to the dealer. Hopefully we'll have the AC in good working order soon. Although we still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer as to why our two units are not ducted together with a dual thermostat.

Sounds like they are taking care of a fix. Re quality control, Keystone never had an answer as to they installed our 2015 refrigerator with the packing still on the back causing it to fail within two weeks of use, and potentially cause a fire.

Since you only have a single zone thermostat and controls on the bedroom A/C itself ... I'm wondering if HC's don't come with dual zone A/C's standard. The gap in the duct is sad, but really not too uncommon. Most any RV tech will relate to a few experiences with sub par ducting. Several owners have minor air leaks and don't realize it ... your hubby was on track feeling for cold spots.

One explanation for the AC not being ducted and the thermostat being a single could be the Dealer ordering a single AC unit and then having to drop another unit in when the rig arrived. Our assumption too often is that Keystone made the mistake. Once you've dealt with more than a few dealers you get around to the opinion that not too many of them are very sharp either.

This is what I suspect, and I'd be OK with it if we could just get the LR to cool down enough to be comfortable. Hopefully the dealer will get these issues sorted and we'll be happier campers!

Keep us posted if your dealer does you any good. My AC is the same where it cools in the bedroom but the living area is terrible. If it is 100 outside it will be 80-85 inside. I have a 2014 3582RL Montana.

I have learned that on a hot day, the living room air conditioner struggles to maintain temp. To help this situation, I set the bedroom temp a little lower which causes it to run more and as cold air drops, helps to cool the living area. So far this has worked well for us.

Assuming the HC is structurally built about the same as a Montana in the front storage area ... if you do this mod, you'll be way happier with your A/C performance. My storage area was near colder than my living area and every time I opened a storage door on a windy summer day, hot air just blasted into the living area from under the steps.

I thought the 2015 HC did have both ACs ducted together, with a dual thermostat. I've had some YES answers and some NO answers. And some don't know. That's the frustrating part!

a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside air is about normal.100 outside 80 inside. Both our Montana's with two A.C struggle to keep it cool inside. Although they are marketed as such they are not well insulated ,Our Big sky has mostly dark colors that absorb the heat. Brilliant move.

However the A/C wrings out the humidity and we keep the fantastic fan running at the lowest setting .We are comfortable.

Make sure you check your cold air return ducts! I found myine collapsed not allowing any intake air to the AC unit. Used PVC pipe to open the ducting up and now significanly better cooling.
