Hydraulic Hose Leak

I have a slow leak in a hose connection behind the control knobs for individual slides accessible in the driver side propane compartment. This particular hose is on the "propane tank" side and appears to not be "directly" connected to any of the knobs for the slides. It is on the end with a elbow connection to the metal piece the other 4 hoses go into directly behind the control knobs. Thankfully, this particular hoses goes to the pump on top of the ATF fluid reservior inside the front compartment and is not that long. I assume changing out this hose would solve the problem since tightening the connection has not worked. I also assume the lines maybe under pressure even when not running the slides in and out. How difficult is it to change this hose? I have been told to not over tighten the hoses so have not put a lot of pressure on the connection that is leaking. Thanks

We had a hose swell next to a fitting and had to replace it last year. It was pretty easy, and we had a new hose made at an auto parts store that caters to the farm community. The orange hoses are extend hoses and the black hoses are the retract hoses. All the hoses on our rig are 3,000 psi rated, regardless of color. We had the trailer connected to the truck, all sides and leveling jacks retracted, and there was no residual pressure on the hose we replaced. On the photo, it was the orange hose from the pump to the left end of the manifold that has all the orange hoses going to it. We removed the hose, expect to need a few rags to catch a little bit of fluid, and took it to the store. The fellow at the store said they don't have fittings for these flimsy hoses, so made a new hose using 6,000 psi hose with fittings that are the same on the end to match the ends on the existing hose. A three foot hose cost a few cents more than $20, and fit perfectly. Ran the slides out and back in, no problems.

Thanks for the info. Three more questions, the end of the hose has the crimp and a 7/16 tap/nut that is apparently screwed on the 90 degree elbow that has a 9/16 tap/nut. Turning the 7/16 nut seems to turn the entire hose, which is not good. Which one is the actual nut to remove the hose? I am concerned the 7/16 may be a part of the crimped end. The second question is, how do you keep air out of the system. I have heard sometimes the system needs to bleed in case air is trapped in it. I don't see how this can be avoided and will running the slides work the air out? Thanks and don't give up on me yet! I am 50 miles from dealer and in farm country so hoses have to be easily found close by.

The larger nut is the one to remove, not the one next to the crimp. You should not need to do anything special to bleed the system. Like I said, we replaced the extend hose right off the pump, and never bled the system, and it worked flawlessly. This is the photo of the hose that caused me to replace the short hose, and you will see, the nut to turn is the larger one, and when replacing the hose, do not use any sealant on the threads, as the tapered connection is what provides the seal.

Color doesn't matter. Like I said, they only had 6,000 psi hose, and that worked quite well. Also, the line I replaced was at least four feet long, way longer than needed, so I was able to use a three hose that didn't need to be looped over the propane line in the front compartment.

2011 tht 2hoses leak at crimp each in .had new ones made 170.00 dollars.

$170.00 for two hoses ... makes me cringe just reading this! I hope they were really long hoses and they bought you dinner.

Use the smaller nut on the line to keep the line from twisting while you use the larger nut to loosen and tighten the line to the connection. Good advice from others not to put any sealant/teflon tape on the threads. They seal using compression when you tighten the large nut onto the connection.

Had three replaced on our 06 3400 the OEM hoses are not of the highest quality. NAPA made the hoses for us.

Another place to find these hoses is almost any farm or construction equipment dealer. All of this equipment has hydrolic lines on it and a lot of these dealers make the hoses.
