Bed Savers

There is an old post below this with older info. So, I thought I would post to get some updated info. It appears Blue Ox no longer makes a bedsaver. Butch's is also listed, but the website listed receives a blank page. Is there a bedsaver option available? If so, do you have contact info available?

Blue Ox no longer makes the bed saver. We purchased a trailersaver BD3 hitch and called Blue OX for a new bedsaver for that hitch and they informed me they had stopped making them a couple of weeks before I called. That was Jan 7th 2016. I was able to find one from a online vendor as that time as most vendors did not know they were no longer in production. As far as I can tell there is no similar product out there.

You're correct. I can't get Butch's to work either, but if you look at some of the trailer parts websites a whole variety of new looking Blue Ox bedsavers are for sale, for instance: https://www.etrailer.com/search/Fift...l+Safety+Catch
But if you take those stock numbers to the Blue Ox site you get the same no answer you get searching for bedsavers. What the heck?

I've got 3 posts about this from a couple days ago under the topic
"Pickup Bed Damage Avoidance". One of them is the email I received from Blue Ox about discontinuing the Bedsavers.
Unfortunately the site provided by Dick does not list my application.
No more Blue Ox, nothing about Butch's
This seems harder than it needs to be. Somebody must know something.

Jerry, that's why I posted. I think the Butch's one would work better for me because I have two Honda generators between the hitch and tailgate with a gas tank between them. Someone must know how to get ahold of Butch unless he went out of production also. Looks like one could build one pretty simply.

Some on line vendors may have bedsavers in stock the site DQDick posted is were I got mine in Feb 2016. One thing for sure Blue Ox does NOT produce the bed saver and has not since around Jan 2016.

It looks like someone would make one that could be used on any hitch.

If they aren't still makeing a bed saver maybe someone could get B&W or someone else to design one similar. It would fit right in their product line and add to it to attract more customers. That would be a good fit for them. I have made some of the cable ends for the guys but they don't fit my product line so there is no way for me to market them. B&W has a market for a bed saver and they may be interested.

Personally, I don't use one. I do a visual check and a tug test every time and that works for me.
Before everyone piles on me for not using one, I believe it's a personal choice that you are comfortable with.

We do have a bed saver for sale we posted it on the central plains rally thread as that is were we are heading then down to the FCRV rally in Shawnee, Oklahoma. will post it here also

It is a Model BXR 4100 that will fit a Reese/Drawtite classic 14,15,16 K hitch. It is fully assembled with all the hardware and manuals. 100.00 firm. First I will take it gets it.

We purchased Trailer saver BD3 hitch and had t o get a new bedsaver. We were fortunate to find one as Blue Ox no longer makes them.

I found a Blue Ox bed saver for my B&W Companion hitch on Amazon. Since my trailer came unhitched and the lever was locked and pin in it, not really sure what happened because it looked like the jaws were closed but I might have missed something. I do not want to take a chance so I will make sure I do the tug test and I will also put on the bed saver.

Jimmer-- It might have been that you "high hitched". This has happened to several MOCr's. It's not hard to do. I've painted the jaws bright orange and I can see if they are closed and if the pin is inside of them. Used to have a problem when checking the pin and jaws because they were the same color and it is dark there when hooked up. No problems anymore!

We bought a bed saver several years ago after a Reese hitch came apart in North Carolina. Last winter, we traded trucks and got the Curt hitch which would not fit the bed saver, so my local welding shop cut it apart and rebuilt it for about $75.00. This was before we knew that Blue Ox was no longer making them. The Curt is not as wide as the Reese so it was pretty simple to cut it down.
