Squeaking motor for front jacks
Today our front jacks started squeaking when we were raising the Monty. It is strange. It isn't constant, but is sort of loud. And when looking at the motor inside the front storage, it doesn't appear to make the noise at a certain point in the rotation. If it was constant I would think it is bearings in the motor, but it happens about once (for 1-2 seconds) every 5 seconds.
Also, I don't see any place to oil anything either.
I don't want to end up stranded if the motor fails. Anyone with suggestions????

It's been a number of years since we ditched the electric landing gears and went with level up, but if I remember right there was a cap on the top of the gears that came off and grease could be put in there. Someone with a better memory than me will probably be along soon.

Yes you grease the legs that way, but I am pretty sure it is in the motor area not the legs.

Tom, Dick is correct, the cap is right on the top of the legs. Access them from the propane compartments on mine. I pack the gear with grease about once a year. You pack what is visible them bump the switch to get to the rest of the teeth on the bevel gear. I also pour a teaspoon or two of 90 weight oil over the gear and let it run down the inside of the leg. Don't over do it or you'll be cleaning the oil off your driveway. I also silicone spray all the bearings on the drive shaft out of the motor. Jim

If it sounds like the motor, then it's either that or (probably) the gear box. They've been known to fail and aren't made all that sturdily.

Agree, the oem gear box was cheap plastic which we replaced with a metal one.

My old Montana had the motor and gear box as sort of one piece. This new one seems like you might be able to replace just the gear box. Any info on this?

You can get the gear box and motor separate.
My experience was that the noise came from the long screw in the center of the leg.
I am now on my forth set of front legs and this set I purchased directly from the manufacturer and 2 motor / gear boxes to go with them. The motor that the manufacturer uses runs at a slower speed than the motor Keystone uses and these 2 legs have now lasted twice as long as any of the other 3 sets.

Well, good news so far. Just to be sure, I took off the top of the leg to check grease. There was plenty of it, but kind of stuck to the edge. So I smushed it into a gear and then poured some gear oil (a little of it) down the top. At the back was a washer that seemed loose and looked like it maybe rubbed lightly. So I got a few drops on it.
So when I hooked back up, no noise at all. Pretty strange, but I hope it lasts. The noise was strange and sort of sounded like something rubbing, but not a weight baring type sound.
