Wheel chocks and stabilizers
What's the consensus on wheel chocks vs. those wheel stabilizers that go between the wheels and spread against them? Also wondering about a stabilizer that goes under the king pin. Anybody use one? Pros or Cons? Upgrading from a 25' tt to a 5er, trying to plan out how to outfit it. Thanks in advance.....

I would say it depends on how your new unit is setup. If it has the auto leveling it might not need anything. If you have to level by using leveling blocks under the wheels then I would get the actual ratchet style devices that fit between your tires. I have the auto level but sometimes still use them. In my old unit without auto level I used them and I also had a two leg stabilizer under the fifth-wheel. It made a big difference on the side to side wobble and the devices between the tires helped with forward backwards motion. I also have some rubber chocks for when I am hooking up and unhooking from my TV. I am sure you will get quite a bit of info on your questions.

I prefer chocks. Gave the tripod stabilizer away.

if you have 6 point auto level Do not waste money or space on a King Pin tipod! and the last 2 Monty's I've owned have had 6 point auto level and I just use big plastic chocks and never had a problem in 4 years of fulltiming, tried the X chocks one time on my first Monty with auto level and it got so jammed in there I could barely get it out bad Idea

I use the between the wheel chocks. If your rig has auto level be sure to level before placing chocks and remove chocks before you are ready to move the level-up legs again. This way you don't jam the chocks in a very difficult to remove position.

The only things I can think of a tripod is good for is carrying it in the bed for added traction for your truck in snow and a heavy duty plant hangar. It's difficult to even give those things away.

Good to know! Then I don't think I'll be spending the money on a tripod. "Added traction" hahahha!

We started with the whole mess. Tripod, between the wheels and chocks. We dumped the tripod even before we added level-up. Dumped the between the wheels the first time I forgot and pulled the jacks before we took them out. Now we just use chocks and only then when we are on unlevel ground. One thing I will add for the folks who want to add level-up. Don't dump your rear electric stabilizers, they still will work and they do make a difference, particularly when the washing machine gets going.

On an site that is off level I prefer to use standard chocks behind the tires to keep it from rolling between the time I disconnect from the truck and get the other 4 levelers on the ground. After all 6 are down chocks are not needed. Never need tripod!

Boy am I glad to see the thoughts on the tripod. Thought long and hard about getting one due to the walk wobble inside. We don't have auto levelers, so read as many reviews as I could and purchased the X-chocks last week. We leave in a week for two weeks on the road so I'll give a report to see if there is a difference. Up to now have just used rubber wheel chocks.

I never used the tripod as it looked like it would not do much. I did have the two leg bipod and it did help substantially especially for forward backward motion. Once again that was with a fifth-wheel that had independent front levelers and two crank down rear stabilizers so it helped. With the six point level up I doubt that I will buy one. As for most of the plastic chocks (I have some) I am not real impressed as they can slide quite easily. I have found that the heavier duty rubber ones grip quite a bit better. You can get this style at Harbor Freight on sale for a reasonable price. They do weigh quite a bit more as they are not just cheap plastic.
