Greasing Wet Bolts

Is it okay to switch out the "zerks" or fittings with 90 degrees ones to ease the greasing process?

Might be easier to go on down to Auto Zone and buy one of their 90 deg grease gun heads. It just locks on to the regular little hose type. Mine worked pretty nice. It was cheap, only bout $3 I think. Only hassle is if you get a fitting that does not take grease it will squish out all around. I have to go in and rotate 2-3 fittings. I was gonna let them ride a while and see if it frees it up. Just don't want to have to jack up the rig to take off the pressure to grease it.

You sure can. I did just that for the same reason as you suggest. They work just as good as the straight zerks.

Instead of changing out the jerks ... just buy this http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/LIN...-Coupler-6WB13
Works pretty well and is easily changed out back to your regular coupler.

I did that last year, changed the straights to 90o. However, I ended up doing it twice and going to a NAPA store and getting some good ones, Alemite or Lincoln.

The first set of 90o were junk and it wasn't the gun.

If the nipple on the fitting that the gun coupler attaches to isn't made properly, of the right shape, there will be a poor seal and the grease will go everywhere but into the fitting. Of course that presumes the coupler is a good one, mine was.

Old age has gotten me! I posted this same question last September. Left on a long trip right after that after deciding to take to dealer for wheel bearings before the trip. Then promptly forgot about the post until started preparing for current trip. I did do a search and didn't find anything before posting this one. Finally, trying to find this post that apparently "disappeared" for a while decided to search posts I have made and then saw the earlier post. The good news is your answers stayed the same. Thanks,
