might be a silly question, but how can you tell the difference between the inbound tv cable wire and inbound satellite cable in the entertainment area? Is there a way to test connectivity? I was going to put the new TV in the entertainment area and I'm not sure what cable belongs where. thanks, MIke

As far as I am concerned the wiring in the entertainment center is an enigma wrapped in a mystery and clocked in confusion. Every time I think I have it figured out, I find I am wrong.

I just took a guess and wired it up, figuring I had a 50% chance of being right. As it turned out I picked the right one, but easy swap if I hadn't.

The best advice I can give is that if and when you do figure out what is what, label the cables and lable the outlets. Then when you get all of that done, remind me to do the same thing. Every spring when we go on our annual snow bound Easter adventure somewhere, I usually have to set up the Directv which again results in a trial and error approach for what goes where (DW and DD's know to leave Dear Old Dad alone during these times!!!). One of these times I resolve to label the daggone connections..........maybe!!

The one labeled Sat goes to the Satellite ant/rcvr, and the one labeled TV goes to the TV or other accessory.
Oh! You have to label them first.

thanks to everyone for the feedback. Stiles, I felt like what you mentioned - thought I had it squared away, but NO! I missed something, makes one run to the liquior cabinet with the quickness!

I have been trying to figure it out for months. I was going to put the converter box in the bedroom so it would work on both televisions. I finally gave up and purchased a second converter box.

You can wire the digital to analog converter box into the antenna system to watch the same digital channel on both TVs but it would require pulling out the amplifier outlet and rewiring it. It can be done but why. I plan to wait until after the conversion mess is over and TVs and boxes will get cheaper. I have Directv and off the air channels are a backup if I can't get a satellite because of trees and such.

A simple little trick assuming everything is connected properly. Remove the jumper between the two connections on the wall behind the tv. Short out the connection outside where you hook up the Satellite Dish or Park TV cable. Then check the two female connectors behind the TV. The one with a dead short (0 ohms) is coming in from the outside. The other one is going back to the TV in the rear. On our late 2006 3400RL it is the bottom one.
