The kitchen slide does not raise up as it retracts. I had to slightly (1/8") pick up the slide and put the strip under it. I put a 1" 90 degree bend on the end of the strip that is inside and fastened it to the inside of the slide. It is then covered with the trim. Without this end fastening to the inside, the strip will tear off. In other words, the slide is sitting on the UHMW strip at all times; retracted and extended. The dining slide does not; it ramps up onto the UHMW strip as it comes in.
In hind sight, I wish I had done the dining slide the same as I did the kitchen slide, but those UHMW strip have been on there for over a year; no problems.
Let me know if anyone wants photos or a clearer explanation.

I don't know much about UHMW, so how do you get a 90 degree bend in it? I was thinking like you that if I slide it inside before attaching outside, the leading edge may flex down and catch on the carpet or linoleum. Thanks.

Put it in a vice, carefully warmed it up with a torch, bent it over, tapped it with a hammer to get a nice 90 degree bend, let it cool.
This slide sits on the UHMW all the time; unlike the dining slide that ramps up onto the UHMW as it starts to retract.
All the screws underneath are counter sunk and glued. You will notice I drilled holes for two rows of screw; before I found out there is only backing material for a screw to bite into on the edge of the slides. A couple inches in from the edge, it feels like cardboard. Only time will tell, but with it fastened inside, I think it will hold ok.
This is the kitchen slide. The dining slide has a solid floor the entire width; I put three UHMW strips on it; one on each end, one in the middle. They are all beveled. No issue with the edge catching on that slide; it raises up as it starts to retract. But, if I had to do it over again, I would do both sides like this.

Thinking about the going the UHMW ski route.
should teh ski be long enough to always be on the wear bar (i.e. when fully extended the the ski is still riding on the wear bar)
This mean I jack up teh slide a bit to get it in far enough to remain on the ski.
rather than 'falling off' the wear bar as the slide hits full extension out?
thought?

My dining slide (the one that ramps up as it starts in) skis do not always sit on the wear bar. I used the bevel method. So far (1.5 years), so good.
My kitchen slide (does not move up as it starts in) always sits on the skis as you describe. At first, I tried to do it the same as the dining slide; first time retracted they ripped off because the kitchen slide does not move up.

Chuck,
Please send your PDF regarding the repair of the Darco with HUMW. We plan to install this as preventative maintenance before we have issues. We already see some wear. Send to: ricknjana@msn.com
Thank you

This is Chucks PDF - at least I'm pretty sure that it is. Gleaned from the [Files] section.
Good luck!

Next question. My Darco is frayed right to the edge and even slightly up the side edge. Placing the repair underneath would still leave this open to the weather and more wear. Any ideas on this?
I was thinking of the Duo slide skis as they wrap around on the side, I think.

Does your slide have rollers?

I think the rollers go with Schwintek slides. Hydraulic slides have wear bars. I am not sure what cable slides have.

We can add the newer MHC units with the electric rack and pinion gear drives as having full length wear bars as well to the list. We only have rollers on the Schwintek bedroom slide.

Darco wear seems inevitable. Where it is makes a big difference in how you try to rectify it. Some use beveled edges at the front of a uhmw strip etc. I won't do that because it puts pressure on that strip as it pushes against the wear bar to get up and over it. IMO a uhmw strip, placed where needed, extended past the wear bar so it never comes off is the optimum way. It doesn't take much to elevate the slide enough to slide the uhmw in.
As far as the darco being worn all the way up to the edge I would use the skis. They cover the worn bottom (unless a wider area) then cover the edges and attach under the transition strip. There is no worry about water intrusion with that install if the strip is sealed. OR you could have Keystone cover the entire bottoms of your slides under warranty with uhmw as I did....works very well. Darco under a slide is a problematic situation with a material that was never meant to slide over a wear bar for any length of time.

I don't know what unit you have, but on my unit, the procedure is the same for both sides with one exception. See post 79 82 85
