That they did, the 7.3L with 4 bolt and cross bolted main bearings, forged steel crankshaft, aluminum heads and a bore/stroke ratio that produces high horsepower and strong mid range torque that is far more fuel efficient then the GM 8.1L offering. You'll notice the 8.1L hasn't been offered in 3/4 or 1 ton trucks since 2006 and therefore GM doesn't really have a gas powered TV to sell other then the 6.2L V8 which is not that strong towing over 10k trailers while Ford is still offering the V10 in the F550 and F650 trucks.

With only 4000 miles per year, why not keep the Duramax? Even an older duramax will pull better and get better fuel mileage. On the other hand, with diesel so much more expensive right now, the cost per mile could be a wash.

If you want a gas engine I'd go with an old 1970 YS block Pontiac 400. Edelbrock performer rpm heads, edelbrock intake, holley sniper efi, crane cam.. this will give you at least 450 hp and 460 lb ft of torque.. Or, 1970 Ford 429..375 hp , nearly 500lb.ft of torque..

I’ve owned several of them. I know where there is a 67 Ramair 4 GTO settings rotten away. That as you know is a 6 figure car restored.

....and in which pickup truck? Not exactly a 12-16,000 pound 5th wheel hauler. Now if you had said an early '70s Ford with warmed ocer 460 I could agree. Oh and yes, I've done it with a couple 460 powered trucks in the distant past.

Can put one in any truck you want. I think the 70 460 put out about 10 more hp than the 429. I believe these older engines made more power than the v-10s.. I took the firebird out yesterday. Idk if it gets even 10mpg..

Well the Ford gas motor must be solid because every gas motorhome on the road uses that platform, and has for years.

Not even close. I have towed FW's with an 88 F350 460 EFI, 4x4 & 5 speed with 4.10's, a 96 F350 460 EFI, 4x4 & 5 speed with 4.10 and present truck in my signature. Having owned 2 460 trucks and 4 V10 powered trucks I can say that the V10 will out pull any stock or mildly modified 460 hands down. The 460 is a great engine, will last virtually 300k miles if serviced correctly, and one of Ford's best ever built engines but is not in the same class as an OHC V10, particularly the 3 valve version.

Have a friend who has a 5.4 V8 which is a 10 cylinder with two cylinders cut off. It has 450,000 miles on it. He uses it every day in his AC business. And another friend that put 1,000,010 on a Chevy pickup, over 700,000 on the original engine.
