Has anyone had a problem with their fan motor on the air freezing up? Ours set over the winter and would not work when we first tried it. Had to go on the roof and take off the cover off. The fan motor was frooze solid. Turned it by hand a few times and got it to free up. Works fine now. Also had another Rv,er with the same problem. Ours is an 04 Mountaineer 5th wheel and his was a the same year but a trailer.Seems as though Duo-therm might have a problem with the new fan motors? Thanks Dennis

What speed was your fan running at? Air Conditioners for RVs are notorious for freezing up when the fan is run on low speed. Next time try keeping it on high and you should not get any freeze up.

Thought I might have not come across what I was trying to say. The AC did not ice up. The fan motor that pushes air through the unit frooze up. Have talked to several people that have had the same problem.After turning it by hand and freeing it up it works fine. Hope it keeps working. Dennis

Dennis & Judy, ours doesn't do that and I suspect yours shouldn't. I'd be wary of future problems. Yours is probably still in warranty. It might be worthwhile to get that motor replaced before it becomes your financial responsibility.

I had the exact same problem with mine this year. It was in storage over the winter and when we camped over spring break, I noticed that the fan was not working. When the AC was switched on, you could hear it come on but no air was coming out of the unit. We camped this past weekend and I climbed up on top, took the cover off the unit and noticed the fan motor was hot but the fan was not turning. I gave it some manual help and it kicked on and worked fine after that.

Just got back from a trip without our 2004 mountaineer. I went out today to get things ready for a trip out to Colorado from Michigan, and guss what ,same problem no fan on the AC, I have already called a dealer to check it out. I am going topside to see if this is the same problem with a stuck fan. I am also going to call Keystone to see if they are tracking this problem. The rv industry is always trying to save a buck by buying cheaper parts, so I bet duotherm did the same with the AC

I sent the following note to the folks at Dometic and they responded quickly with the reply at the bottom. They did not give any indication that this is a widespread problem but obviously it is not isolated.

I have a brisk air model # 59516.531 on my Montana RV that I purchased new last year. I store the unit (covered) over the winter and usually get it out in early April. This year, on my first trip in April, the fan on the unit would not switch on. The AC would switch on but the fan did not blow. I removed the cover on the AC and the fan motor was hot. I gave the blade a few turns and it finally began working. If you go to the Montana owners website (www.montanaowners.com) under general discussions and the thread "Duo-Therm Air", you will see that I am not the only one to have this problem. Do you have any suggestions on what can be done and is this a problem with that particular model. The unit is still under warranty and I don't wont the fan motor to fail after the warranty expires

"What we need you to do is get your air conditioner to a service center. They can call into our warranty department and get that fan motor replaced. For what you are describing to be it does sound like a defective fan motor."
