Pinbox

Was there a standard pinbox that Montana put on the 2009 models? We have a 3000RK and I have a chance to get a Morryde 1716 for a good price, but I don't know what pinbox came on ours. The manufacturer's label is missing from it. My understanding is that the 1716 is a "long" pinbox. Thanks.

Maybe this will help.

I don't remember the number of the rigid pin box that came stock on our 2006. I will tell you the Morryde pin box was the best addition we have made. Changes the ride and towing experience immensely.

You must have the fixed pin box as you are considering the Mor-Ryde. My 2005 had the fixed one and I agree with previous posters, the Mor-Ryde is far superior. It does come in two lengths and I believe the 1716 is the long one. I prefer it as it provides room between the tailgate and the RV for walking through and backing in at an angle with the tailgate down.

Just brought mine home in preperation for a trip. Pretty sure mine is not the long pin box but still works well with the slider hitch. Mine is anRPB72-1116. MORryde has a specific rubber spring for different weight ratings. Mine is a 4 and suspect yours will be the same. A friend of mine got one with wrong rubber springs and said it rode ten times worse than the fix pin box. Morryde quickly diagnosed and corrected. Think they installed a 5 when it was suppose to be a 4.

We had one on our previous 5th wheel. It made a big difference with chucking.

Weight

Does anyone know how much one of the 1716 MorRyde hitches weighs? Is it something I could hold up to the trailer myself while DW inserts a couple of bolts to hold it temporarily?

Lower your tailgate and back under until pin box is above tailgate. Lower front of trailer until pin box is nearly touching tailgate. (Or put some wood blocks or plywood there). Remove bolts and drop pin box down. Raise trailer and slide old pin box out of the way. Slide new pin box in place. Carefully lower trailer down onto new pin box. Install new grade 8 bolts. May need a large screw driver to align holes.

I replaced my pin box by myself, no problem. No lifting. No jacks.

Bill has a good idea. I've never removed my pin box but a friend replaced his. It took two strong young men to hold it while he put bolts in. I'd say they are heavier than you want to fool with by hand. After it was done, he said he wished he'd had a tech do it for him.

You won't be able to hold the pinbox up by yourself. I don't know the weight but suspect in the 100# range. I watched the Morryde guys replacing pin boxes at the national rally and copied what they did. Morryde has a great video. https://www.morryde.com/products/rubber-pin-box/

I removed mine similar to the way Bill did. The only difference is I used my farm tractor. I had a Montana 2955. The pin box on it is about .6 inches wider than on my 323 High Country and in a different location than my 2955. I had to drill new holes and make 5/16 inch long bushing. A lot of work but cheaper than a new Trailair pin box.

We have a 2006 Montana and it had a Lippert 1716 pin box. We just replaced it with a Reese Goosebox. Haven't had a good test on it yet, but from reviews, I'm anxious to hit the road and give it a try. We're headed to the Oregon Coast early in August, so will get a good test then. The Lippert had a goose neck extension on it and we have the BW hitch with the roll over ball so we went with the Goose Box. Managed to buy it for $1,200. Have the old pin box for sale if anyone out there needs one.

Moryde pin box

This is a great system, on my second trailer with one. The install system using the truck bed tailgate is the one I used the only issue then is getting it on and off the truck, they are heavy.
