Slide out locks?

Anyone use slide locks when they are in? Yes, no, why?

Our last 5er needed them for the kitchen slide but it had the rack and pinion operators. The current with cables, no and I expect that the hydraulic slides also woill not need them,

Our last trailer needed them because the slide would bounce and damage the ceiling. This was the kitchen slide with the fridge, stove and TV.

Our 2007 TT with one small slide used them, but didn't need or use them on our Monty or SOBs

slide locks

We had another brand that had electrically-driven slides, and they had to have slide locks [light aluminum tubes with crutch tips] in case the electric system shorted and caused the slide motor to be activated. I believe the requirement was not brand-specific, but a government requirement for all electric slides.

It might be something to check with your dealer or local DMV office. BTW, we have seen slides partially open going down the highway, no doubt due to a slide motor malfunction [not operator error].

Aaah! Not a favorite subject for me account having trouble with slides 'leaking' out when traveling. I took it to the dealer, nothing fixed. So we tore into it and found leaks at connections were the oil was showing. Tightened loose connections and mostly fixed the issue. We're still not done but I gotta tell you that loss of a single drop (or several) of hydraulic oil from the system will allow that much movement in the cylinder rams.

Keystone saves way too much money on many things including tightening connections.

If the slide outs are hydraulic you do not want to try and use any sort of slide lock.. if the hyd actuator had an internal leak wit( 3000 lbs hyd pressure the weak link is gonna be what ever you try and lock those slides to...it will break

Needed a slide lock

I had to back my 2008 Montana up my steep driveway, and the trailer tilted a good bit. The kitchen slide would tilt out at the top alarmingly. The dealer could not find anything wrong with the system -- Keystone told them to give me a slide lock for the top and I have been using it for the last 10 years. No problem.

My living room slide kept creeping out. All hydraulic cylinder seals checked for leaks, all ok. No leaks at any fitting. Dewald pump. Sent pump to company who diagnosed a faulty internal check valve...no parts available. Their fix (external manual valves) didn't work, so i added slide locks that actually work.

My slides have the hydraulic cylinder in the center with square tube support guides on each end. A square tube is welded to the frame of the rig. A smaller square tube rides inside that tube, and is attached to the slide.

I purchased some 3/8 inch pin locks (pin with pull ring on one end, spring loaded ball on the side on the other end. With the slide fully in, I Drilled a 3/8" hole through the larger square tube through it into the small tube. Affixed the pin locks to small chain to keep it handy.

Slide in, insert pin locks on both support tubes, good to go. When arriving at destination, pull slide in to take tension off of lock pins, remove them, and extend slide.

Just completed three month cross country trip, and this setup never failed to perform.
