Diesel fuel prices
For the first time on our current trip south, I noticed Diesel at a price below $2.00. It was $1.99.9 at a service station in Gulf Shores, AL today. Anybody else noticing a drop in prices?

With a Wally shopping card (which gave me a .03 discount) I got it for $1.90.9 at Murphy's in Alvin, Texas yeaterday. Saw a sign for $1.93, another for $1.96, but most are $1.99 or more around Houston.

Hi John, hope you are enjoying the weather. Back home here in Ontario diesel is going for 79.9/liter with gas around 74.9. Sounds like you have a good deal down there.

Diesel is $2.12 -2.15 in our area. Cheaper in the KC,Mo area. Will need to fill up within the next couple days. Since not traveling, a tank lasts about 4 weeks.

In Independence, MO, it's UP over last week. Last week was 1.91.9. Now it's 1.97.9. Still better than on the other side of town, as gimmy2001 stated. By the way, gimmy2001, even though not traveling at the moment we're still doing too many miles. 4,000 in the first five weeks on this truck. A tank of diesel is lasting just two to four days or so.

How else are you going to break in that new truck, you need to get some miles on it before you head south,what kind of fuel milage are you getting with the 6.0. Roman

Hi Roman,
The early returns make me think this 6.0 will do a little better even than our '03 6.0 even though this truck is about 800 lbs heavier. I'm basing that just on early mileage of the two trucks. These numbers are from the trip computer that gives a continual readout of mpg since last hitting the reset button.
on summer diesel --
Highway, solo, 70-75mph. Have made several trips to my folks', a 240 mile roundtrip. Mostly freeway with some city plus freeway through downtown Kansas City. First trip I got 17.4 mpg. Most recent trip to the folks' place, using summer diesel, I got 18.4. So it's improving. This whole trip is rolling hills, by the way.
Mixed city streets and city freeway. 16.0 - 17.5 depending on traffic and speed. Most common is about 16.5 so far.
Pure city streets. Haven't done a full tank of this but the computer shows about 15-16. A lot depends on how much time I spend sitting at lights and in traffic.
Winter diesel - made a trip to the folks' yesterday with a load of winter diesel. Ran most of the trip at 75 mph and got just 16.8 mpg. I was a little disappointed until I realized I was using winter diesel. That includes about 4 miles of city streets to get to the freeway plus around the town where my folks live.

Have you calculated your mileage the old fashioned way for comparison to the computer readout? I read somewhere that the computer usually gives a more optimistic reading.
I've been drooling over the new Ford but my current one only has 61,000 on the clock. I need to take some measurements also as I think the bed rail height is a couple of inches higher. The Monty sits level now but only has 5" clearance.

Searchers, no, I've not calculated the old fashioned way on the new truck. I suppose I should just to verify the computer's reading although that will be hard to do without getting it exactly as full both before and after. Over time I guess it should work out. I heard someone say the computer is optimistic, too, but can't figure out how it could be unless it's intentionally programmed to be optimistic. It knows the miles traveled. I'd use the odometer, so that should be the same. It knows the fuel actually used. I'd find that by refilling the tank but would have to spread it over several tanks to have correct numbers. By all accounts I can think of the computer should be more accurate, unless a sensor is bad or something. Maybe I'm missing something but would think the computer would be more accurate. Maybe my computer (career) background is skewing my impressions.
On the prior truck with the 6.0 I always calculated it manually because it did not have the trip computer.
I suspect the bedrails are higher than your '95 but it's not been a problem for us. The hitch has some vertical adjustment as does the pinbox on the Montana. We have 7 inches clearance over the bedrails.

In the Boston area the price runs between $2.25 to $2.35. Which is 60 cents more than heating oil which is basicly the same product.

OK, somebody tell me why the prices are not coming down? When crude prices go up, fuel prices go up the same or next day. But oil prices have dropped more than 6 bucks per barrel and the diesel prices here went up two cents per gallon! Why?

Well Steve been gonme on business trip for while not able to get on. But think abnout it winter is coming, diesel fuel is related to kerosene and fuel oil. Which are both used for heating oil. Ever think about it diesel fuel is the least refined fuel there is but yet today it's the most expensive along with heating oil.
