Going on the road travel nursing :)
Hi, all! We just bought a 2013 Keystone Montana 3150 RL and a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel dually to pull it with. Hubby retires in May, but I can't wait until next year to start snowbirding. I'm taking a travel nursing contract and heading down South in February. Arizona or Alabama....need to find a nice vacation place with a home health nurse contract for me. He'll take a vacation to drive down with me and then fly back. Our biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to pull my Prius behind it, because that's what I'll have to use to drive home to home to visit my patients.
We're both so excited we're doing cartwheels.

Welcome to the RV lifestyle! We have been living in ours for two years and traveling for a year. We love it.
Note: You can't pull the Prius behind the Montana. One of you will have to drive the truck/camper, the other will have to drive the Prius. That's how we do it with our Honda CRV.
Good luck!

The frame on your Montana is not strong enough to safely pull a car. Someone might tell you that you can but Keystone will void your warranty if you do.

I am going to agree with not pulling the Prius behind the Monte. Not built for it. And you would need to rig additional hookups for brakes on it to help stop everything quickly if needed. Don't know the length of the frame warranty, but the 2013 is probably out of warranty anyway. Driving it would be far better and safer.
Having said that. I have seen lots of people pulling very large boats behind their 5ers, and one pulling a car trailer with a beautifully restored early 60's classic full size Buick convertible in the Colorado mountains apparently heading to a car show. I would not do it. I would not recommend doing it. BUT.

Welcome from AZ. You did not say how experienced your husband is with towing a large rig? Trying to tow a car behind the Montana is no at all a good idea.

Welcome to the group. We also have a Prius and Joyce follows me with it when we travel for the winter. We carry a large portable porch in it so it's not a waste and the Prius gets such good mileage it's not expensive. Even if the Monty was strengthened to tow the Prius, Prius is a car that can't be towed, it would have to be trailered.

And then, you would be way over your gross combined weight rating for the truck. Some states will not let you pull doubles.

This is Stacey's other half (Husband of the Boss). I've done some research and found that the Prius can be towed on a dolly; front tires off the road. However, the Prius has a curb weight of 3,000#, plus add the weight of the dolly and total tow weight will be over 3,500#. Plus, we would have to look at the cost of installing a 2" receiver hitch (our 3150 only has a baby receiver) and wiring and a surge brake. I'm trying to convince her this may be a bad idea.
I was a heavy equipment operator in the Air Force (many moons ago) and have experience driving semi's, but have never driven a triple. Our previous rig was a 2000 Aerolite 8524SL 5th wheel behind a 2007 F-150 with the small V-8. One trip over the Rockies to Utah and back with that combination convinced me to stay in the flatlands until we had a biggerv tow vehicle.
One more winter here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for me before I retire in May; can't come soon enough. We'll do some fall camping to get to know our Montana then store it (inside) until Stacey takes her first contract in February.
Thanks for the warm welcome; I'm sure we'll be looking for more input as we go along.

Welcome!!
I'm also an RN and have considered doing some contracts while we travel, but I really like being retired so I haven't done much to pursue it.... Good luck with it. I met several travel nurses while I worked in the hospital and it sounds like a great way to see the country and get paid too... Hope you find a good company!
Good luck and welcome!

From another former Airman, Welcome to a great forum. With all the "Snowbirds" headed south it might be possible to find someone willing to drive the car down. Just a thought.

Welcome to the forum from Colorado. Enjoy your 3150 and many trouble free miles. I agree with the others. Drive the Prius. Many have experienced frame issues towing behind the Montana.
