Little Help Please

Just bought a new 2004 297RKS Mountaineer, was wondering what type and size of generator any of you suggest using. The front compartment isn't very big, where do you set yours?
Thanks,
IH

It all depends on what you want to run with your generator. If you want to use your air then you need at least 3000kw, Dometic recommends 3500. If you just want to run the rest of your trailer then you can get by with a 2000kw. You won't be able to run a toaster, water heater and microwave all at once but other than that a 2000 is just fine.

Now what kind? If you are going to run it out in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors then an inexpensive one will do. If you will have neighbors they will really appreciate you if you have one of the quiet Honda's or Yamaha's. I have a Honda EU2000i and really like it. Once you get several feet away from it you don't know it's running

Hope this helps

I don't know the door sizes on your Mountaineer basement but I would guess you can't get a 3000 watt generator in there. We had to remodel the door on our Montana to get it in the front basement compartment and it has to be taken out to set up and run. It is the quiet one and runs very nicely with a 15000 btu AC and a TV and a few lights. But Don't try the microwave, or the elecric frying pan or 110v curling iron at the same time. I have heard of folks mounting them on a platform at the back of the trailer and even saw one the other day intransit. So I didn't get to talk to the owner.

Mainly we use our generator when we are boondocking for several days at one location.
