F250 PSD / 3400 Opinions Please

We are considering purchasing a Montana 3400 and towing it with a F250. I just had the truck weighed and I was very suprised when I was told it only weighed 6380 lbs full of fuel. Anyone that has a 3400 could you let me know what your opinion would be on towing it with the F250. Have you ever had the 3400 weighed? A couple of years ago we traded in a Montana 3280 on an Alfa. Towing the 3280 with the F250 was great. We sure wish we had our old trailer back. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I'm sure you'll get some good input from others who know what they're doing. For us, look at our signature. You can see our truck is a little over-kill. You may want to ask this question in the towing section of the forum.

My 250 is almost a 1000lbs more than yours, is yours a 2wd? Iam extremely pleased with the way it tows the 3400. As far as the wieght of the 3400 it is vary close to what the brosure says including the pin weight. We are extremely happy with ours and love the floor plan.

Ours is an F250 Supercab 2WD shortbed diesel.

We have a 3400RL (love it) and we tow with the same vehicle as you, and we have had no problem at all. We have traveled about 4000 miles since purchasing our 3400, with not a problem. I do suggest an exhaust brake if you plan on doing any mountain driving. Have a great day.

I tow my 3400RL with the 2500HD Chevy with the Duramax and have not had one bit of trouble. I have even found times where I need to take my foot off the pedal to slow her down. Last time I weighed the coach it was hitting the 13,300lb mark. I think your F250 should do a fine job of towing this coach.

Harold & Teresa, that 3400RL is a beauty. Usually, the concern with a 3/4 ton truck is whether the pinweight will cause it to be over the axle rating and/or cause the rear to sag. Many folks have reported that's not a problem. Others have added airbags to level the truck. In any case, the 3400RL has the lightest pinweight of any Montana (surprising, isn't it!) so that probably won't be a problem. As for whether the engine/tranny can handle it, not a problem. Lots of people doing it. If it handled your 3280 it should handle the 3400 with no problem. We're towing with the new psd and torqueshift and our scaled weight is more than the 3400's GVWR so I don't think you'll have a problem.
