Hail to the Monty

Sitting on the lake in Grapevine Tx, life is good. Departed Fl and staying away for hurricane season. Friends and relatives calling telling us about bad weather forcast for the Dallas area, nothing but blue sky, NO PROBLEM!!!!!
Our little Midland HH54 screached and the game was on. Turned on weather channel and holy smokes, tornado warnings all over the Dallas area, PROBLEM HUH!!!!!!!!!!
Then the rains and hail started along with an annoying siren. What do you do in a Montana, on a lake, during a tornado warning. I realized, NOT MUCH!!!!!!!!
Checked the truck and Monty roof this AM, no damage, life is good.
I need to get to the mountains fast.
Mike

What you do is get out of it...... There is a large Motor home on its side about a mile up the road from us due to straight line winds that came through here a couple of days ago.. We had hail about #57 gravel and marble size that did no damage to the truck or Montana.

Even though we live in north Texas and tornados are fairly frequent visitors, I generally do not get too excited about approaching storms. I will typically go outside and watch in fascination until the rain or lighting drives me in. Our town was last hit by a tornado in 1948, although they have hit in the surrounding areas in recent years. I have only seen 3 in my 65 years.
But when we stop at an RV campground during storm season, I will check to see if they have a tornado safe place. Many in the tornado prone areas do. No safe place to go in a trailer.

Bill-- You mean to tell me the "basement" is not a safe place in the Monte when the sirens go off? We always check for a "safe place" also and most of the time it's the shower house here in the Central Plains anyway!

Mike-- You just have to worry about freezing pipes in the mountains! Keep that rig and TV in good shape and you'll make it to beautiful Nebraska in July, have the new bedsaver and attend the Central Plains Rally! See you in July!

Trailer = Tornado Magnet
Real good idea to check out a shelter site in advance if in an area where tornados are in season.

We will hit the road probably Tuesday and head west, I think the mountains will still be cold and snowy, so we may head to Arizona for a while.
I am glad you didn't get hail damage, gladder if that is a word, that you are safe. We were in our Tornado safe room yesterday for an hour, sirens were going full blast.
Stay safe, we will see you on the road.

Hmmmm? Well, they do say to go to the basement if you have one.

Mike - Sounds like you got mighty lucky. The airlines at DFW airport, just a stones throw from you, and also at Love Field airport had to take a lot of planes out of service due to hail damage. Baseball/softball size hail was reported in some areas not far away.
And tornado and straight line wind damage all around you.

Ozz,
We should be at Chatsfield State Park in Littleton, Co. Spending Sunday and most of Monday at the Air Force Academy, bucket list. You have my schedule someplace, look in the last place you put it.
