DUSTY - DON As long as the dogs like it, I would say go ahead, after all their the one's that have to ride in it.
See if you can get it before Branson, so you have a totally new rig to show off.
Safe Travels John

We still have to sign the papers. If they can get our hitch in it, we will have it in Branson, unless something happens that isn't right which I am not expecting.
There are not many of them on the road yet. Saw a few with flat beds and etc. The dogs had better like it!!!!

Good luck. Dodge just let me down though they claim the max towing capacity is 17500. For that size truck I thought it would be higher. Oh well. Let us know how you like it once the grin wears off.
Cheers,

On this truck the max towing is around 19,500 or more. The 4500 is around 17,000. for max trailer towing.
Depends on which transmission, length, heavy duty rear end, and several other options.

I've looked at both the 4500 and 5500. They are very heavy and, if loaded down with cargo, will seriously reduce your towing capability because their GCWR is not very high.

According to the Dodge site, max towing is 18,450 for the 5500.
GVWR is 18,750.
GCWR is not shown on that site.
Base curb weight with manual transmission is 7394. With automatic it is 7457. That's probably without the bed, though. With the bed it's likely in the weight range of the F350. Not really all that heavy.

We may not have everything done by the MOC get together. Have to get the hitch put in and several other things.
This 5500 would have to be better at towing then our 2500 dodge although it does OK with the 5,000 helper springs but is overloaded! I am sure. No squat but need bigger truck. I believe this 5500 would do fine for our 5th wheel. Our 5th wheel is around 16,000.

There was an article in the January 2008 Trailer Life on the 4500 and 5500 model Dodges. It stated that their GVWRs are 16,500/19,500. Their tow ratings are from 17,550 to 18,450. However, the GCWR for both trucks is only 26,000. Therefore, if you load the trucks to their GVWRs, that would not leave much for towing.

Mebbeso but the info I got was from the Dodge official corporate website, not a magazine. But they don't show the GCWR there.

The GCWR is 26,000 from the Dodge brochure.
Also copied from dodge brochure:
The max gross combination of truck and trailer weight. Total weight of fully equipped truck and trailer combining all weights, including cargo, driver, passengers, fuel, coolant, equipment etc.
We have not signed the papers yet. Still thinking about it.

If you go over the 26,000 level then you will most likely need a CDL to tow with the thing.

We should never be close to the 26,000 limit. Our trailer weighs 16,000 loaded.
We have not signed the papers yet. We are going to make them an offer and if they don't like it, then we will walk away. Sooooo will keep looking if this is the case.
I can not believe a lot of people are buying diesels at this time. So maybe we will have that on our side. But we are prepared to walk if they don't deal.

Not trying to argue but I am at 23000 with my unit right now. The truck weighs in at 9200 and the trailer was 13800, actual weights. With your statement of the trailer being 16,000 max that would take my current weight up to 25000. If that truck is 1000 heavier then you are at the 26000 weight. I know PA requires a "NON COMMERCIAL CDL", for RV, if over 26000 as well as MD.
Just a suggestion, you may want to re-look your weight estimates. My fuel tank is 35 gallons if that truck has a 50 gallons or better that starts the weight creep. "I" beam frame vice my tublar, etc.
Good luck and hope they deal with you.

I don't have a Dodge but my Chevy 3500 weight is 8,160 ready to tow, the weight sounds light for the Dodge 5500 but I could be wrong? I had a Chevy Kodiak 4500 2 wheel drive with a Aluminum hauler bed that weight 10,900 and the Cambridge and Truck weight 27,500 when we were full timing. The number 26,000 is to keep it were in most States you aren't required to have a CDL. I have a Class A CDL so I didn't have to worry about being over the 26,000 which is the Federal law. The weight will slip up on you fast. My weights were will just enough water to flush the John. Good Luck on your decision... GBY.....

We are very conservative when we load the trailer for a trip. Only enough water to flush and buy food when we get there. Neither of us take more clothing then we need.
